Summer, 1944, Netherlands.

Y/N POV:

I went over to our barn to get some eggs. I suddenly stopped at the door as I saw two men standing in the barn; both were looking at me with surprised faces. The one with our chicken on his arm decided to speak up: „Guten Tag Fräulein." I was so shocked that I dropped the basket and ran back to the farmhouse.

"Stop running away!" he said as he grabbed my wrist and pulled me over to pin me against the wall. "Please don't hurt me," I whispered, and I tried to get as much space as I could between the two of us. "I won't hurt you, I promise," he said, smiling. It wasn't a naughty smile, but a friendly smile. My eyes met his, and we stood there for some minutes, not saying anything, just staring at each other. I nearly got lost in his hazel eyes until his friend yelled from outside, "Luz, you have time for ladies later. We have to go, buddy." Luz suddenly let me go and went out of the farmhouse.

I looked after him as he went out of the house and over to his friend. His friend punched his shoulder and said something before he started laughing. Luz just smiled and shook his head before he looked back at me. I stood on the veranda, and suddenly I got an idea.

"Luz!" I yelled at him. He stopped and turned around. "Yeah?!" He responded. "Wait a moment." I said that and ran into the house to grab some chocolate from the kitchen table. I returned and threw it to Luz. "Chocolate," I said and smiled at him. He looked at the chocolate in his hands and then back at me. "Thanks, farm-girl." He continued to walk back to his friend as he stopped once again. "Hey... can I see you again?" I smiled and took out a pen and a piece of paper. "Here is the number of my parents telephone. I'm Y/N, by the way." I smiled as I gave Luz the piece. "George," he responded, and he took the paper.
"Stop flirting with the girl and come!" His friend said annoyed, but then smiled and walked off the farm.
I went back to the barn to get the eggs after watching George and the other man walk away.
Maybe this was the beginning of a wonderful friendship or even more between the US soldier and the farmgirl from the Netherlands.
