Christian got in an hour after Chloe.
"What's up?" He asked her, knowing something was definitely up because it was unusual for his sister to sit in the living room.
"I've been waiting for you" she responded. Her sober tone made him alert. He glanced around the room like it would give him a hint of what was going on in her head.
"I know. Why?" He asked impatiently.
"I saw you recently hanging out with some boys"
"And?" He frowned in confusion.
"They didn't look..." she struggled to find the appropriate word "decent"
"What?"
"They're dangerous Christian"
He paused, staring at her in confusion. She said nothing and it made him irritated.
"The hell are you talking about Chloe? You're just going to judge my friends based on how they look?" He asked in disbelief.
"I just... I'm just looking out for you"
He spared her a glare then headed for his room.
"Don't walk away from me" she said following him.
"You're acting crazy"
"I'm not ! I know what I'm saying Christian, they're dangerous" she yelled, desperately trying to make him listen but he wasn't having any of it. His pace was quick and she struggled to keep up behind him. With every step he took, her desperation increased.
"They're drug dealers!"
"Enough!" He yelled as he entered his room, turning to face her. "You're acting like mum"
"I'm ..." he slammed the door in her face " I'm nothing like that woman!" She yelled, banging the door. She banged on it for a minute then stopped, realizing how crazy she was acting, almost like her mother. She chuckled bitterly at the thought. She gave up and went to her room, frustrated at the outcome.
Chloe was sitting in her room, staring at a blank wall when her phone pinged. She was too distracted by her thoughts to care about it. All she could think about was the threat she had received earlier. The doorbell ringing was more effective in pulling her out of her thoughts. She waited a bit for her brother to go check it out but when the bell went off again, she sighed.
Standing in front of the door was Elliot in sweatpants and a polo. His outfit gave the illusion of being relaxed but his eyes said otherwise. His greys burned into hers, making her heartbeat increase. She averted her gaze, annoyed at how badly he affected her.
"I sent you a text" he said.
"Oh" was all she could muster.
"Yeah. I told you I'd be coming over" he paused and glanced behind her "is your mum home?"
"Um. No"
"Good" he pushed past her and entered inside her house. She shut the door and turned to face him with surprise obvious on her face. She swallowed any comment she had and led him to her room. Once the door was shut, he started pacing.
"I know you said I shouldn't worry about you but I can't help it Chloe." He stopped, glancing outside. His thoughts were occupied by her, her face twisted in fear that night. The conversation he had overheard earlier, Laila's words. "I can't not worry. I need to know what's going on"
"El..."
"If you're going to say something mean to push me away then don't bother because I'm not backing down this time"
Chloe saw the determination on his face and knew it was pointless to try and argue.
"Just let me handle it please"
"So there is something" it wasn't much of a revelation since it was obvious but to him, getting her to admit it was progress. "I can't help you if I don't know what's going on"
"I don't need your help"
"Chlo..."
"I'm tired Elliot." She sighed, letting her guard down. She slumped down on her bed, looking at the ground "I..." she swallowed, the words feeling too heavy to let out.
Elliot said nothing, giving her time to get the words out.
"I saw something Elliot. Something I shouldn't have seen" she glanced up at him and he saw the tears in her eyes. It broke his heart to see her that way. It clicked, what she had seen was probably the park murder. "That night... they found me, they're threatening me"
"Is Maxwell involved?" He asked.
"I'm not giving you the details" she didn't deny it. That was enough for Elliot to figure out that he was involved. "They're going to hurt me"
"They're not. I've got you Chloe, I won't let anything happen to you"
She smiled sadly. He sounded so confident but what could he do against a bunch of killers? She got up and did something she wouldn't normally do, she hugged him.
"It felt good to get that off my chest" she whispered. Elliot was frozen for a second before wrapping his arms around her. Her head was resting against his chest. They stayed in that position for a minute before Chloe pulled away. She stared up at him, those beautiful gray eyes once again pulling her in. She didn't look away this time. Her heart started beating faster, his mesmerizing eyes and sweet manly scent made her feel intoxicated. She felt the atmosphere drop between them. He had that look in his eyes, the look that made her lean in and go on her tippy toes, the look that made her glance at his lips, the look that stopped her from pushing him off when he closed the gap between them.
His kiss was slow and soft. She leaned into him more, bringing her hands up to his hair. He pulled back and started at her.
"Is this ok..." she shut him up with her lips. This time their kiss wasn't slow and soft. It was hard and passionate. The room was filled with their heavy breathing. Chloe pushed into him more, till their bodies were flush against each other.
Chloe didn't understand it but her body wanted more than that kiss, it was a craving she felt to her core. It wasn't her first kiss, but her first wasn't anything close to this.
Elliot pulled away panting. He took in the sight of her, her cheeks pink and her chest moving up and down with heavy breaths. She looked everywhere but his eyes. It made him smirk. He pulled her to himself, wrapping his arms around her.
"I've got you"
