I decided that I need a break from the coffee shop because A) I have a creepy stalker, and B) My grades have been dropping, and if I don't get them up my parents will take away my credit card. I know I claimed that my coffee shop was built by me from the ground up, but I still need money so- this is my only option for now.
Anyways, from now on there's no Sana, Nayeon, or Dahyun to keep me distracted. Just books and studying.
As my make my way into my next lecture hall, the hall is filled to the brim with student speaking in econ jargon. I feel overwhelmed as even though I'm half way through the semester, I've only ever entered this hall once. I just do the bare minimum homework assignment and get by.
I look around in desperation clutching my backpack as I look around for an open seat.
Spotting an empty seat towards the back, I quickly make my way there. I take a deep breath, and try to sink into my seat.
A few minutes later, a woman wearing a light blue button up shirt, and a pencil skirt, holding a laptop and binders, makes her way to the front of the class. She plops her stuff down on the desk at the front of the lecture hall, and uses a pencil to pin up her hair her hair into a messy bun, before addressing the class.
"Silence everyone," she calmly states, and the room goes silent.
The woman with the messy bun begins her lecture, talking about economic theories and equations.
As she speaks, I find myself trying to focus, jotting down notes and attempting to make sense of the unfamiliar concepts. The students around me seem engrossed, but I feel like a fish out of water.
Just as I'm grappling with the intricacies of supply and demand curves, the door creaks open, and in walks Haechan. He glances around, searching for an empty seat, and his eyes lock onto the only available spot, which happens to be right next to me.
"Hey, mind if I sit here?" he asks with a casual grin.
I nod, slightly relieved for the familiar face in this sea of econ confusion. Haechan settles into the seat beside me, pulling out his notebook.
As the lecture progresses, Haechan leans over "Look who decided to grace us with her presence," he smirks, raising an eyebrow. "Didn't know you even knew this lecture hall existed.
I roll my eyes, "Come on, I was here for the first day," I try to defend myself. I mean sure I didn't know who the professor was, but at least this isn't my first day.
Haechan chuckles, "First day, huh? Must've left a lasting impression."
I shoot him a playful glare, knowing I deserve the teasing. As the professor continues her economic discourse, Haechan leans in to whisper once again, "You actually planning to attend regularly now, or is this a one-time thing?"
I smirk, "Well, let's see how today goes first."
Haechan laughs.
Suddenly, the professor stops lecturing and the room goes silent.
"You two in the back," the professor's voice pierces through the silence, "Am I interrupting something?"
"Uh-," Is all I can manage to get out as my eyes widen. At this point the whole class has already turned and they're all staring at Haechan and I. I turn to Haechan, and he's red in the face. The professor cocks her eyebrow waiting for an explanation.
Haechan stammers, "No, Dr. Myoui, we were just discussing... economic principles."
Dr. Myoui narrows her eyes slightly, clearly not buying Haechan's explanation. "Hmm, sure."
I expected her to let go of it but she kept grilling us, "What type of principles?"
Haechan, still red, lies, "Oh, you know, the highly advanced economic principle of... um, caffeinomics. It's the study of how the consumption of coffee directly correlates with increased productivity in college students."
Dr. Myoui slightly smirks, "Caffenomics? I've never heard of it and I have a PhD, tell us more about your principles. She puts air quotes around the word "principle".
Haechan turns to me, suddenly his red face quickly changes and he grins.
"I don't know much about it yet, but Y/n has been all about it," he cheekily smirks, "She owns a coffee shop so she knows all about it."
I shoot him a death glare.
"It's just something stupid," I try to bluff. "Sorry for ruining the lesson." I jab Haechan in the rib with my pencil.
Dr. Myoui raises an eyebrow but decides to move on with the lecture. As she continues, I glance at Haechan, who's trying to contain his laughter. We manage to make it through the rest of the class without further interruptions.
As I gather my things to leave, Dr. Myoui approaches me. The playful atmosphere quickly fades.
"Y/n, can I have a word?" she says with a serious expression.
I nod, feeling a bit uneasy. Dr. Myoui takes me aside and says, "I've noticed you haven't been attending class regularly, and your performance in assignments has been subpar. I want to make sure you're aware that you're currently failing the class."
I swallow hard, my anxiety rising. "I... I know, that's why i'm trying to make an effort to actually come."
Dr. Myoui studies me for a moment before making an unexpected offer, "How about I give you private tutoring sessions to help you catch up? I believe you have potential, Y/n."
I'm taken aback but also grateful for the offer. "Really? That would be incredibly helpful. Thank you, Dr. Myoui."
She nods, "I want to see you succeed. Let's make sure you reach your full potential." Feeling more optimistic, I leave the lecture hall.
