On a chilly winter afternoon, the door constantly chimes as customers flow into my coffee shop. However, I pay no attention to it, I don't have time to. Cold weather means, customers repeatedly ordering warm drinks, and this day was just like any other.
Between making lattes for bitchy Karens, and hot chocolates for grubby children, I keep my eyes on the clock waiting for my business partner and best friend Marty to show up for her shift. My mind races as I think of what could have happened to her. Did she get into a car accident? Was she kidnapped? I should close early- I need to search for Marty.
I look at the line in my shop and it's literally out the door.
shit- what do I do?
As I have an existential life crisis, my phone chimes, I grab it in desperation for the slight chance that it maybe Marty.
It's not Marty... It's some number from Korea- probably a spam caller- I decline the call put my phone on silent and get back to work. If I want to save Marty I need to get rid of all these customers.
Two hours pass before I can finally close the store and search for my best friend. I check my phone to see if Marty called me, nothing except for that wretched Korean number... they called me 200 times- I should give them a piece of my fucking mind.
When the number calls again I pick up, ready to yell at this person, yet the person on the other end beats me to it.
"FINALLY YOU ANSWER, DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY TIMES I'VE CALLED YOU?" A female voice yells.
"I WAS AT WORK." I yell back.
"You're Marty's friend right?" The voice asks.
Once again my mind races- did this person kidnap my best friend?
"Who are you and what do you know about Marty?" I shout.
"I'm her ex girlfriend, she's been at my door crying for the past 5 hours. If you don't pick her up in 30 minutes I'll call the police on her." The call cuts and the number texts me an address.
I quickly put my apron away, lock the door, and jump into my car. I speed to the address that the person sent, ready to give Marty an earful.
I arrive at an apartment complex, the address says apartment 203, I quickly dash to the second floor and I see Marty crying outside.
"I'M SORRY, PLEASE TAKE ME BACK!" She yells.
"STOP HARASSING THAT POOR WOMAN!" I yell at Marty.
"Y/n?" Marty looks at me with a confused expression. "What are you doing here? You should be at the coffee shop."
"No, you should be at the coffee shop." I respond, "Why should I have to cover your shift while you harass some poor woman?"
"I-I'm sorry Y/n, it's just that-," I cut Marty off.
"It's just nothing, you have 5 minutes to get into the car or your ex won't be the only one calling the police on you." I leave and I sit in the car.
Five minutes later, Marty pouts as she plops herself in the passenger seat of my car.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" I softly yell, trying not to make a big scene.
"I'm sorry I love her" Marty's voice starts to break as her eye's well up, "I just want her back." I stroke Marty's back as I keep my eyes on the road.
"I don't think harassing her for five hours straight is the best way," I chuckle. "She probably never wants to see you again,"
Marty sobs the whole car ride to her apartment. As she gets out of the car I yell.
"You better do the morning shift tomorrow!"

As soon as I arrive at my apartment, I dive into the shower. After the most eventful 3 hours of my life, a hot warm shower was much needed. While I wash my hair, I realize I should apologize to Marty's ex girlfriend after my shower.

(A/N: this is them texting btw)
Marty's Ex
Y/n: Sorry about Marty's behavior, I'll make sure she doesn't do that again
Ex: You're not the one who needs to be apologizing
Y/n: Marty won't do it so I will, she's probably balling her eyes out anyways
Ex: I feel bad but she deserved it
Y/n: Why did you breakup with her anyways? And when did you guys even start dating?- I don't think Marty has even told me about a "girlfriend"
Ex: We started only 2 months ago when I came by your guy's coffee shop and she was hitting on me nonstop
Y/n: That sounds like something she'd do
Ex: I'm usually not that easy but I was honestly desperate and willing to give something new a try
Y/n: So why'd you break up with her?
Ex: This morning I found her in bed with my roommate
Y/n: Damn, wow I feel really bad
Ex: You shouldn't you have nothing to do with it
Y/n: Would free coffee for a month make you feel better?
Ex: Y/n you don't have to, also I don't think I should come by your coffee shop anytime soon
Y/n: I'm closing tomorrow, you should come by towards the end of my shift
Ex: You don't have to
Y/n: I insist
Ex: Fine, I'll see if I can make it
Y/n: YAY! I'll wait for you, what's your name by the way?
Ex: Nayeon Im
Y/n: Goodnight Nayeon! See you tomorrow!
Ex: Goodnight Y/n!
(Y/n changed Marty's Ex to Nayeon)
