Stepping out into the outdoors I felt the harsh but refreshing breeze brushing calmly against my face. I turned to Laura, who looked exhilarated about finally getting to see her dream football team play - West Ham.
I on the other hand was more of a Chelsea fan, so technically I should've been in the other stand, but since I was only here after Laura invited me, I didn't complain.
We were both sat in a hospitality box, for Laura's birthday which was a couple of days ago. It had been her dream to watch her childhood football team play, which our mum surprised her with hospitality tickets on her birthday. They both couldn't make it, since they were busy with work, so I decided to take her instead, so she wasn't alone.
"Look Nancy, they are coming outside!" She squealed with excitement. We both began to clap as the players walked out, and we stood up to attempt to get a better view, even though we were probably in the best spot possible.
After several minutes, the game kicked off and we both took our seats. As I was in the home stand, I couldn't openly cheer for Chelsea, so I decided to keep quiet instead. Well, that was until West Ham scored and I laid back grumpily into my chair.
Laura jumped up and down excitedly, celebrating witnessing her first ever goal seen in person, and during the process, I felt something on my foot. I look down to see Laura had knocked over her bottle of coke, with an open lid. I sigh in frustration.
"Laura I know you're happy but calm down, look what you just did to my shoes!"
"Oh, sorry I didn't realise, do you need me to help you clean your shoes?" - she frantically picked up the bottle, attempting to wipe my white trainers before giving my a sympathetic look.
"It's ok Laura, il get you another drink. What do you want?" I say, trying not to freak out about the massive stain made on my trainers.
"Can I just have another coke? Also, try to clean off your shoes in the toilet, if you need any help, just ask." I give her a small smile before standing up and heading indoors, heading straight for the bar area to get her a new drink.
The bar was quite empty since the game had just kicked off, so it was quite easy to get to the front of the queue. "Hello, can I just get one bottle of Diet Coke please?"
"Sure, cash or card?"
"Card please." I say politely, handing over my card and scanning it. Then, I collected the bottle and left, heading straight towards the toilets.
It took me several tries before I saw signs of the coke actually coming off my shoe and eventually, I gave up. The stain was too vast for me to remove, and the more I tried, the more of the game I was missing.
Angrily, I stormed off, slamming the bathroom door behind me so loudly that the whole corridor could hear it.
Walking back to the hospitality room, I took deep breaths; I knew I couldn't stay mad, especially because it would ruin Laura's birthday surprise, and the last thing I'd want is for her to be upset. She was like my best friend. We did almost everything together and were inseparable.
As I opened the door to the hospitality room, i felt like I was missing something, and it wasn't until I returned to Laura that I realised what it was: her drink.
Rapidly, I dashed down the corridor, going to collect the bottle and completely unaware of my surroundings. I was so oblivious that I didn't even realise that there was a man right in front of me, and it wasn't until I crashed straight into him that I realised he was there.
He was holding two cups of beer, and both went flying into the air. One landed straight on his stomach and the other landing on his head, spilling all down his clothes. We both landed on the floor, facing each other.
"Omg I'm so so sorry I'm just in a rush I didnt me-" I stuttered, adrenaline pumping through my veins.
"It's okay, honestly. Ah shit, it's all over me." He sighs deeply before standing up and holding out his hand, which I take.
"Come one, il help you clean up." I say, glancing towards a disabled toilet, so people wouldn't think it's weird that a boy is in a girl's bathroom.
He follows me, holding the two empty cups of beer and putting them in the bin on the way past.
It took over half an hour to get the stains off his clothes, which meant that I'd missed nearly the whole of the first half.
"I'm so sorry, I really am. Look, here." I say, handing him a £20 note to buy new drinks.
"Honestly, keep it, iv got enough money. And i don't actually mind missing the first half, especially if Chelsea are losing. I'm more of a Chelsea fan." He spoke awkwardly, almost as if he was forcing himself to make a conversation because he didn't know what to say.
I place the money back into my pocket before engaging in the conversation. "Me too, I'm only in this stand because of my sister. We got hospitality tickets as part of her birthday presents." I smile awkwardly.
"Oh, that sounds lovely. I'm only here because my friend is a lifelong West Ham fan, and he invited me to a game."
We kept chatting; we'd been in the bathroom for at least 15 more minutes before realising the time and leaving the room. People would've thought we were up to something freaky if they knew how long we'd been in there for.
"I'm Harry." He said, holding out his hand for me to shake.
"I'm Nancy, nice to meet you." I shake his hand back, smiling warmly back at him. I hadn't even realised how blue his eyes looked, almost like the colour of a beautiful ocean.
"So.... I'll see you around?" He smiled back at me before turning to walk into his hospitality room, which I hadn't even realised was next to mine.
"Yeah, enjoy the game." I said before turning and heading back into the room, where Laura had impatiently been waiting for me.
There was something about that boy, I knew him from somewhere, but I couldn't put my finger on it.
