Leo examined the metallic surface of the giant beast, trying to find some kind of weak point. The movement of the creature had slowed considerably which made everything much easier. He felt confident in his abilities. The only concern was how much longer he had until he was exhausted.
Thèrèse was kneeling next to the dragon's head, her soft look and her hand rub had somehow managed to calm the monster down. It was a sight that Leo would never forget.
It took him almost an hour to find the control panel. It was right behind the dragon's head, which made sense. He'd elected to keep the dragon in the net, because it's easier to work with the dragon constrained, but the dragon didn't like it.
"Hold still!" Leo scolded.
The dragon made another creaking sound that might've been a whimper. Thèrèse cooed the dragon after throwing Leo a glare. "Stop being mean to the dragon, Valdez." she huffed, before continued cooing the dragon.
The boy found himself staring at the girl's expression as she cooed the dragon. The cute sound she made was adorable, despite the fact that she was talking to a creature that could have killed them a while ago. As she continued her interaction, Leo found that it was getting harder to concentrate on the task at hand.
The boy needed to snap out of it. The dragon's whimper and the girl's cooing were starting to become irritating distractions. The control panel was his only concern for now.
Leo examined the wires inside the dragon's head. Leo turned his attention to the wiring. It was ingenious, definitely, and it made sense to him. This was the motor control relay. This processed sensory input from the eyes. This disk...
"Ha," he said. "Well, no wonder."
Creak? The dragon asked with its jaw as Thèrèse perks her head up as well.
Leo was feeling pretty confident in his abilities. He made his way between the connections between the wiring and circuit boards and was able to pinpoint the source of the problem. It felt like he could hear the dragon's whimper and her cooing, but he knew those sounds were just distractions.
The creak from the dragon's jaw made him pause from what he was doing. "Don't move," he commanded the creature before glancing towards the girl.
Thèrèse glanced at him before comforting the dragon again. "You've got a corroded control disk. Probably regulates your higher reasoning circuits, right? Rusty brain, man. No wonder you're little... confused." Leo almost said crazy but he caught himself when Thèrèse glared at him.
The dragon's jaw made other creaking noises as he processed the information coming from Leo. It felt pretty natural to hear the boy speak on the creature's behalf. As if they were sharing a simple conversation.
With Thèrèse there, it felt almost like an odd trio. The boy looked at her again after she glared at him. He was certain that her eyes didn't look so soft before, but now they were.
