Chapter One

Suspensions and Punishments

————————————————

GALE HAD BEEN IN the middle of a zoom meeting (it could've easily been a email) when her assistant informed her she was needed at her daughter's school, immediately. She didn't bother ending the zoom call, leaving that for the assistant to do.

The entire walk (run) to her car and the whole drive to the school, had Gale going every possible worst case scenarios. Tatum was somehow severely hurt. Or god forbid there was an active shooter situation and her daughter had been one of the injured. Maybe she got into a fight with someone and had a taken it tad bit too far.

Arriving at the school, the lack of police presence relived her worries immensely. At least she could cross one scenario off the list, one down two to go.

Inside seemed completely normal, a few stray students loitering around but nothing out of the ordinary. She quickly headed to the front office, one of the ladies led her to the principal's office.

She took a breath before pushing her way inside, there her daughter sat with a clenched jaw and a glare that could put even herself out of business.

It was eerie how intimidating Tatum can be.

Thankfully, she herself had never been on the receiving end of the glare.

On the other side of the desk, an unnerved balding middle aged man who seemed like he was trying his best not to quiver in fear or bolt out the door.

"Mrs. Riley," Gale rolled her eyes, not only because she's told the school many a time that she was Weathers, but mostly because of the relief that washed over him when she walked in. Sure, her daughter could be a bit odd, but she wouldn't actually hurt someone. (She hoped) "Please have a seat." The man motioned over to the chair next to Tatum.

"It's Weathers." She corrected as she sat down, Gale turned to Tatum and whispered, "You okay?"

Tatum shrugged, not letting up on her glare.

Unsatisfied with her kid's answer, she turned back to the principal, and just now she noticed a purple hue beginning to form on the man's left eye. (So, she was wrong about the Tatum not hurting anyone)

"What's this about?"

He cleared his throat, "We got an anonymous tip that Tatum and a few other students, Odessa, Dorothea, and Bradford. They all showed up under the influence after lunch and were distributing drugs out to various students."

Gale furrowed her brows, that sounded so unlike Tatum (the girl did have some trouble saying no when she was having fun) especially the getting caught. She reached out and grabbed hold of Tatum's chin, forcing the girl's head to turn towards her.
