Chapter 5

(Sofia POV)

"Sofia?" I turned to see who it was. "James, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be comforting your sister?" "That is exactly what I am doing." He said wrapping his arms around me from behind me. "You have been my little sister for years now. Don't think that anything anyone says is going to change it. Even if right now being an Enchancian Princess isn't the best thing in the world, sorry but that is a part of who you are." I could feel myself crying again and James turned me around as he shielded my body from the rest of the world. "Don't you need to go back to Amber?" I said when I finally caught my breath and calmed down a little. "You need me more right now." We stayed like this for a little longer.

When we finally let each other go. I then found it funny and let out a laugh. "What's funny Sofia?" "I have been helping other people finish their stories, I never thought that there would be one about my family." James let out a little laugh too. I then turned to the parchment that I had brought out. "James, do you think that I can have a minute. I need to do something before I chicken out." He nodded and left me alone and I finally wrote a letter that I intended to send.

Dear Hugo,

If you read this letter which I can only hope you will read, not that I would blame you if you don't after I never responded to any of yours, please know that everything I am about to say is the absolute truth. I don't know where to start because I have tried to start this a thousand times before and every time I would start it felt like it wasn't a good enough reason as to why I have ignore you for so long. I kept telling myself that it was to keep you and everyone else safe from the villains I had to face both as Storykeeper and as a Protector.

The truth is that I was so scared. I was scared that if I told you the truth I would end up losing you entirely, so I pushed you and everyone else away. When I first saw you at Royal Prep I did think that you were cute, but then you opened up your mouth and made the worst first impression imaginable you were rude, arrogant and so many other things. And you spent every moment after that proving me wrong. Granted your original attitude during the Flying Crown wasn't amazing, when you explained how everyone in your family had been a part of the Flying Derby team and how much pressure that legacy was upon you. I think that was the first moment we actually talked. After we won we became friends and in being your friend I discovered what a kind, loyal and determined person you are. You stick by your friends no matter what and you always but all your effort and attention into what you are doing. I admire that greatly. Once you joined the Ice Dancing team, it became clear that your greatest flaw was that you let others' opinions determine your happiness. It hurt so much to know that you were willing to not do something you loved because of what your family or others might think. But despite all your fears you were the one encouraging me, telling me that I could do it. I think that was the moment that I knew my feelings for you had grown far more that you just being a friend or even a best friend.

That was when life decided to start getting hectic. I had taken the role of Storykeeper and soon began my training as a Protector and I started seeing you less and less. The moments I spent with you were the happiest I had leading up to graduation. I even considered going to Corinithian Sports Academy to spend more time with you. Sometimes I wish I had.

I don't expect you to say it back or feel the same way but you need to know: I love you. I have for a long time and I always will. Stay safe and know this no matter what happens to me.

With all my love,

Sofia

I sealed the envelope and went back into the palace. "Baileywick" I said seeing him in the throne room. "Yes Princess Sofia. What can I do tot help you?" "I need you to bring the Royal Family here for a family meeting." "Yes Princess Sofia, right away." I waited for my family to come and I saw the family in shambles. My parents were keeping a secret and seemed reserved, Amber's eyes were red and puffy as she was trying to regain his composure and James was just trying to keep it together. "Mom, Dad we know about the curse and Prince Cole." The room was silent. "Why didn't you tell us?" I asked looking at them. Dad started, "We thought it was just a legend but, then a vine grew on the boarder of where the Kingdom of Alychs ended and ours began. Then we" Mom cleared her throat, "I thought that it was better not to tell you in case we found a solution." "Did you?" Amber asked. They both shock their heads. "We are so sorry kids." None of us said anything after that. We couldn't bring ourselves to talk about the fact that our family would soon be broken. Amber left first followed by our parents. I turned to James, "If anything happens to me, please give this to Prince Hugo." He just nodded taking the sealed envelope.
