Chapter 18

(Sofia POV)

The wedding was in a few hours and would be at the Enchancian palace. I move to Albuquerque as soon as we get back from our Honeymoon to begin to learn how to be king and queen. I was in my suite with Mom, Amber, Clio, Ruby and Jade. Amber was my maid of honor, Ruby, Jade and I promised each other that we would be bridesmaids at each others weddings ever since we were kids. I also invited Clio to be my bridesmaid, she was a member of the family now and she was becoming a closer friend as Hugo and I planned the wedding.

They were all dressed in lavender floor-length gowns. The gowns were a one shoulder and had a sash in the middle. Amber and Clio wore silver tiaras while Ruby and Jade wore floral crystal leaf hair combs. Ruby and Jade were helping me with my hair weaving it in intricate braids and creating a bun. "I will go check on your gown Sofia," Clio said. I nodded to her as Amber came up and began fixing my make up, "How are you feeling Sofia?" I nervously smiled, "Is it wrong that I am worried for something to go wrong." She let out a little laugh, "With how our lives have been recently I would be more surprised if you didn't feel that way." I smiled as she took my hand. Mom then came up, "Your father and I wanted you to wear this today." She placed a silver tiara matching along the lines of the braids in my bun. "It is the crown your father gave me to wear at our wedding," She smiled taking Amber's and my hands. "The gown is here," Clio announced as a maid carried my dress in. I walked over and saw my ballgown.

The bodice was fitted and had a lavender bow before the tulle ballgown skirt that reached the floor. The dress had to off the shoulder short sleeves and a sweetheart neckline. It was perfect. I went to change and when I came out everyone began to gush, "Sofia, you look perfect." I smiled as I looked down at my dress. I amused myself with how right this wedding dress felt compared to how wrong one felt a week ago. I looked in the mirror and my hand went to my neck. I didn't regret my decision to take off my amulet and the other Protector's seemed to understand my situation and set out to look for a new Protector of the Everrealm. It was still strange though to see what I looked like without it.

I heard a knock on the door and turned and saw, "Prince Axel, what are you doing? Shouldn't you be with Hugo?" He laughed. "Yeah he wanted me to check to make sure you were still here. I mean after running out on the last guy I can't blame him for being worried." Axel was under the impression that a week is enough time to begin making jokes about everything that went down. I gave a small chuckle mostly out of pity when I noticed something in his hands. "What do you have there?" He looked down at the box in his hands, "Oh this, nothing really... just a present from your fiancé." Of course. I shook my head and grabbed a small box on my table, "Can you give this to him for me?" He nodded and we switched boxes.

I rejoined the girls and the all came around me, "What did Hugo give you?" Ruby and Jade eagerly asked. I slowly unwrapped the present and opened to box. Tears came to my eyes as I looked down at it, "Oh, Hugo" I smiled.

(Hugo POV)

I was already to go and was just waiting for Axel to come back. I looked around the room at my Dad, James, Desmond and Prince Ryan a friend I made at the Crointhian Sports Academy. Axel was my best man and everything seemed to be ready but, I wouldn't calm down until I saw Sofia walking down the aisle. "Son, you are going to wear a hole in the floor" He laughed and the other princes in the room laughed at me. I would have been making fun of me to if I wasn't so nervous.

Axel came back in the room carrying a different box, "You and Sofia are truly made for each other. She asked me to give you this." Of course she did. I opened the box and saw a silver compass inside. I read the inscription on the back, So you always find your way back to me, smiled. The needle began to spin as I stayed still and I wasn't exactly sure why. James came up next to me, "So that is what Sofia was talking to Cedric about." She talked to Cedric about the gift. I wondered what was going on.

King Rolland then came in the room, "Everything is ready. Hugo you are needed at the altar." "Thank you sir," I said. "We are going to be family, call me Rolland now." I smiled at my soon to be father-in-law. I turned to my groomsmen, "Please meet up with the bridesmaids and-and" "Calm down baby bro, everything is going to be fine." Axel said patting my shoulders. "Famous last words" I mumbled.

I walked down the aisle past all of our friends and family and stood looking back down the aisle waiting for Sofia. I kept my hand closed other the compass Sofia gave me waiting for mer to come. First to walk down behind me was Sofia's friend Ruby and Prince Ryan, then Jade and Prince Desmond, then James and and Princess Clio walked down. I held my breath as Amber and Axel walked down the aisle meaning that Sofia was coming next. Finally I saw her, she was walking down with her mother and father on both her sides. I couldn't help but stare at her in awe as she came closer and then I saw it. She put on the necklace I had given her as a gift. It was an antique necklace with seven oval cut amethysts and three individually pear cut amethyst drops suspend from the central three oval cut amethysts on a silver chain. She came up and stood next to me and I sighed in relief when I saw her smiling.

I felt the needle move from the enclosed compass and briefly looked away from Sofia to see where it was pointing. I then saw it was pointing at Sofia. She quickly whispered in my ear, "No matter where we are in the world. Just follow the arrow and you will find me." She put her hand in mine and we turned to my father who was officiating the ceremony. "Dearly beloved..."

-at the reception-

It was time for Sofia and I to open the dance floor. I took her hand and guided her to the middle of the ballroom. We began a slow waltz and she kept smiling up at me. "Sofia, how do you feel right now?" "Beyond anything I could ever describe. I love you just doesn't feel like enough" she smiled up at me. I began to spin her and she asked, "What about you? How do you feel right now?" "Like we are at a pretty amazing spot for a happy ending." She frowned when I said that. "What did I say?" "We are not at an ending. We are just starting our lives together. I'd say we have a pretty happy beginning on our hands." I was amazed with how right she was. "You're right, this is the perfect place for our happy beginning." We finished the dance and she brought her hand to the necklace I had given her. She hadn't said anything but, I knew she felt weird taking off the amulet. "How did you know that a necklace would be perfect?" she asked. "Well you got the amulet when you became a princess right?" She nodded. "And it started a whole new chapter of your life," she continued to nod, "Well this is a celebration of the next chapter of your life with me. Granted this one doesn't have magical powers." She laughed as I said that and pulled me into a kiss. We both knew that our lives wouldn't be perfect and that we were bound to argue with one another but, at the end of the day there is no one I would rather have by my side and with that look in her eye I knew she felt the same way.

(Sofia POV)

I spent the rest of the night celebrating with my friends, family and husband. It was a wonderful night. Hugo had changed my life in so many ways even going back to when we first met. He challenged me and gave me a better understanding of myself. He understood the pressure of living up to your family and made me feel less alone even if I never said anything. When we both started Enchanted Ice Dancing he gives me so much credit for helping him join and be a part of something he loves, but he helped me just as much. He believed in me even when I didn't and he wouldn't let me give up on myself. We were now next in line for a throne and would have a stressful couple of years before we are crowned but, I believe that he can do this and I know that he believes in me. Even if we end up screaming, challenging one another I know that at the end of the day we will love each other and figure out what the beset thing to do is. Hugo was talking with his brother and I went up to them and grabbed Hugo's hand. He squeezed mine as he continued talking to his brother. That was all I needed, just feeling him squeezing my hand let me know that everything was going to be ok.
