The darkness inside of you does not define who you are. It's what you chose to do with that darkness that reveals your true colors -thekalopsiapoet

3 Years Earlier...

FELICITY CHASE hated the EAU counselor's office. It was a spacious room yet she always managed to feel claustrophobic as the doctor asked her an array of questions. Causing her to have to search for answers she wasn't sure she had— as the walls shrunk in around her.

"How are you feeling today?"

Sick to my stomach.

"I'm feeling fine."

Liar.

"Still having nightmares?"

Every night.

"Occasionally." Felicity answers quickly. She forces herself to smile. Not too bright, not too tight. Trying to convince the doctor, or maybe herself, that she was completely fine.

"If they're not as frequent, that's good news. The sooner they're gone for good, the sooner you can be back on the field. I'm glad you're making progress, Agent Chase."

Felicity knew deep down that she was wrong to lie but she also knew that if she told the doctor everything, it would bring up questions she didn't want to answer. And more therapy sessions. So she made the choice instead, to stay silent on the matter.

5:30 rolled around and she sprung to her feet. Just a few more steps. She thought to herself as she threw out some forced niceties before leaving the shrinking office.

She caught a cab to her apartment. The driver made polite small talk about the weather. Felicity forced herself to listen and answer his questions but her head was swimming with memories.

You will be punished, child

She pushed them down but they kept coming back up like bile in her throat. Taunting her as she made it to her apartment and shut the door firmly behind her.

"Go away." She pleaded into the darkness as she leaned against the doorframe for support.

You will be punished.

The words choked her, leaving her unable to form any of her own. The case had destroyed the barrier she kept between the darkness of her past and the little light inside of her that she pretended was a lot bigger than it was.

Punished by fire.

She could feel the flames. Feel as they wrap themselves around her body and squeezed. She could feel as the smoke contaminated her lungs. She shut her eyes hoping to block everything out but instead pictures flashed in her mind.

PUNISHED BY-

"LEAVE ME ALONE!" She screamed, holding her head in her shaky hands.

Silence consumed the space but she knew it won't be long before everything came circling back to throw in a few more punches she wasn't sure she could handle. The gun pressed into the holster on her side suddenly felt a lot heavier. She placed it into its safe and turned on the time lock.
