you are a red and fiery flame,
a fire that dances bright.
others are enamored by you,
they want to touch your light.

and i'm frightened
by the thought
i'd leave you out my sight —
i want your flame
as only mine,
an ember that burns
in my heart
and in my mind.

no, i don't want them to feel your heat
or the spark that you hold deep,
for your tongues of flame
can only burn my skin;
lick my neck
'til it bruises,
'til it oozes with blood,
'til you've made me clean.

i can endure the pain
if you need me to.
feel the scars
if you'll let me hold
the hearth of your fire.

no, i won't be able to bear
if you entertain the moths
who've lingered shortly
after seeing you smile.
because after all these years,
i was the one
who tended your fire
all the while.

so please, dance with me again,
sizzle if you have to.
i need your warmth
before i grow cold
and lie in my grave —
lifeless here without you.

note: hi! long time, no poems. how are you? this love poem's quite ridden with anxiety ala cornelia street by taylor swift style, but it's still a poem nevertheless, and we celebrate this return to writing poetry and making art with emotions after being a slave to life and work in general.

hope you like(?) or resonate(?) with this one. had to let this out but moving forward, will try to write more positive poems in the future :)
