Synopsis:
In the 21st century, the Phantomhive family are but a distant memory of the past. The butler has moved on one soul extra in his stomach. And the red reaper who was always one step behind him has carved her own path.

Sick and tired of dispatch treating her horribly, she went rouge decades ago, moved to France and perused a career in fashion. No one any wiser to the fact she's a reaper.

So when out of the blue a very familiar face shows up in her boutique, old feelings come back to haunt her.

Chapter 1 | cherry red lolita

In the modern day, the demon didn't have to be a formal or covered up as when he was last in this body. Same face, different contact, different clothes. Sebastian hates to admit it, but his time as the Phantomhive butler centuries ago made a bigger impact on him than any other contract had. Dare he even say it, he missed a few of those he worked with who were long dead now.

So when he was summoned about a year ago and needed to assume a human form, he defaulted back to his identity as Sebastian. His whole appearance, personality and human disguise already mapped out for him. It'd been long enough no one would even recognise him as the past butler, all who knew him that were were long gone. Not to mention he was in France, not England.

His most recent contact had him act as somewhat of a personal assistant, killer for hire mix. Some of the most powerful members of Frances underground crime ring had sold their soul to him in return for protection from being caught by the law or rivalling groups. It was mainly drugs, hits and other narcotics they dealt with, nothing impressive to Sebastian who had seen bloodshed no human could even imagine.

The personal assistant side of his job consisted of running errands for his master. It felt almost like he was a butler again.

And that's what he was spending the day doing today, running errands. Everything from a drug deal to picking up some bread for tomorrow's breakfast. It was a sunny day, there was a slight chill in the air as winter hadn't fully left yet. The heels of his boots clicked when he walked, his tall stance towering over those he passed by. Even without the tailcoat he still gave off that gothic and mysterious aura.

Nothing could shake his deadpan but almost angry looking glare, except... was that a cat in the window?

Stopping in his tracks, he turned to look at the sphinx cat wrapped up in a little red knitted sweater sitting in the window of a boutique. He couldn't help but approach the window and take a closer look.

What a pretty boy! He was in a perfect loaf with not a single paw showing. He looked nice and warm in the sunbeam and his little sweater. He sat between two mannequins dressed up in evening dresses, clearly the pet of the shops owner.

He may be a demon, but he was weak for a good cat. Before he knew it he was inside the shop, the sound of Lana Del Rey's 'off to the races' playing over the speakers. The shop smelt like something floral, or perhaps fruity. He ducked down to the cats spot by the manikins, reaching a hand out for him to sniff.

"Aren't you a pampered boy? Look at your little sweater, such a handsome man" he complimented the cat.

The cat allowed him to rub behind his ears, purring against the demons hand. Spotting a rhinestone collar with a heart tag, he took a look at the name printed on it.

Sebby.

"Well isn't that a funny coincidence? I knew someone who called me the exact same thing" Sebastian chuckled.

Again he may be a demon capable of ripping a human in two with his bare hands, but he wasn't immune to a cat in a sweater.

"Oh I see Sebby as coaxed another window shopper inside" a voice spoke behind him.
