Early story chapter about casting
He had to be dreaming. Right there on the very top of the casting sheet was his name, Hypnos Cthonic. Right next to the lead role, the white swan. All he could do was stare up at the sheet on the bulletin board outside the studio as everyone got their shoes on and tied their hair up. He'd actually done it, landed there lead. The biggest show of his life, and he was the lead. He'd been in some significant roles before, but never the lead. He was the sugarplum fairy once, and has a solo in a competition he placed second in. But the lead? THE white swan? He wanted to cry.
"Hey Hyp, what'd you get?"
That was Zagreus, who was late as usual. Hypnos couldn't even reply he was still in that much shock. Zagreus looked over his shoulder up at the casting list, smile breaking on his face when he saw it.
"Oh wow! Congratulations mate, you deserve it. And hey look at that, we'll be dancing together" Zagreus said, pointing to the role just under the white swan.
Zagreus Styx, the black swan. Parallels, Hypnos and Zagreus would be partners in this performance.
"Zagreus I'm dreaming, tell me I'm dreaming" Hypnos muttered.
"You're not dreaming, you got the lead" Zagreus replied.
With that reassurance, Hypnos smiled and the excitement finally poured out. Jumping around the room cheering to himself that he'd landed probably the most important role of his life. Zagreus couldn't help but smile watching Hypnos' excitement, it was cute. And he absolutely deserved the role, he'd worked tirelessly to land a good role for this performance. It was the first of its kind, a re-work of swan lake that rather than focusing on the swan maiden and her prince, focused on the dulling of the black and white swans. In a story about overcoming self loathing, learning to love and overcome the darker parts of yourself.
