General synopsis: Having an aquatic lover as a Druid

It was common knowledge that Druids had a unique and deeply powerful connection with the land. Earth, trees, flowers, the animals that live within them. Their patron god the Oak Father himself blessed them with something no other beings could replicate. Except maybe, the water people. The nymphs and merfolk of the sea, rivers and lakes had a similar deeply engraved connection to the water and its flora and fauna in a way reminiscent of the druids and their connections to land.

So when cursed started to infect the land, it inevitably seeped into the water as well. Both people of land and water were affected by its decay. Both were doing all they could to try and fight it off and preserve their sacred places. As the water became too merky and dark, thick with dirt and decay, you had no choice but to move up the river to cleaner waters, lest the ooze start to corrupt you as well. It was there you found the upper areas of the river were right next to a sacred place to druids. Not being one to intrude on peoples land, especially when it was sacred, you stayed outside its bounds on the banks of the river. Although inevitably with Druids coming to the river for water, your presence became noted. The arch-Druid of the land was the one who approached you, asked why you were there and if you had any intentions of intruding on sacred lands. Of course, you denied. All you were here for, was clean water. And as the conversation went on, it came to light that you were both in a similar position. The curses had begun creeping into the grove too, the Druids doing what they could to fight it off. The knowledge that your area of the river had been completely overrun was distressing information to the man, who despite his massive towering frame and arms bigger than the width of your body, was actually very kind and understanding. Without clean water, the land suffers too after all. So you decided to team up. You'd provide the intel on the state of the water and help the Druids try and find a way to cleanse that land and water in the area.

You felt a little awkward at first, despite the arch-Druid himself letting you onto the land, you still felt like you were intruding in a way. You were a nymph after all, not even from the land to begin with. But he was more than welcoming, and made sure you were treated well. It came off as though he held a level of respect for you different to most. That as a nymph, a being of water, you were like the other side of the coin to a Druid. So similar yet so uniquely different at the same time.

Soon enough you found yourself gazing up at him with doe eyes, finding excuses to be around him, wanting to know more about him personally. Your crush was... a bit obvious. Luckily for you though, those feelings were reciprocated. And even though the relationship was still fresh, you had a gut feeling it'd be a long, wonderful one.

Needing hydration to stay strong, you spent a few hours each day in the river, and recently you'd been joined by your new lover once his tasks around the grove were attended to. So as has become the usual, you found yourself sitting in the slow moving waters soaking your scales. This time though your hands were occupied with intricate knots and freshwater pearls being strung onto string with added small rocks. Nymphs and merfolk alike were known for their love of jewellery, and their unique techniques in making it durable for even the harshest waters. You'd done the threading, now you were enforcing each knot to make it as secure as possible. Nothing was breaking this necklace. Focused on your task, you didn't register the sound of movement in the water at first. Assuming it a water bird coming in for landing or something. That was until a familiar voice broke the silence of the quiet river.

"Nature truly outdid itself with you"

Ah, there he was.

"You say that every time" you chuckled.

"Because it's the truth, you should see yourself. Soaked and shining in the sun, so focused and relaxed in your natural habitat" Halsin replied.

You looked up at him, standing knee deep in the water looking down at you. He looked tired, but had a content smile on his face upon finally getting to spend some time with you. Just you, the quiet of nature and your natural habitat.

"Your skilled hands back at work I see?" He smiled.

"Uh-huh, almost done with it. Making sure all the knots are secure" you replied.

"You're so fast with such intricate weavings, it's impressive"

"I could say the same thing about your precise wood carvings. I don't know how you can whip up ducks and cats out of a random block so quickly"

Uncaring of getting wet, he reached a hand down, running his fingers through your still damp hair.

"Practice" he replied.

"Same goes. You get used to the fiddly bits after a while" you said.

"That you do"

Tying off the last knot, you stood up. Water dripping down your body, your smaller height kept the water up to your mid thigh compared to his knees. Holding up the finished necklace to show him, Halsin carefully laid a hand under the pearls and stones to take a closer look.

"You are incredible you know? Not only being able to find all the supplies out in the wild, but string them all together to perfectly" he complimented.

"You like it?" You asked.

"Very much"

"Good, because it's yours"

Reaching up, you placed the necklace over his head and around his neck. The centre charm of a rock oyster shell sitting just below the center of his collarbones. A warm smile spread across his face, fingers carefully touching the shell.

"You're too good to me" he smiled.

"Consider it my thank you for letting me stay here, keeping me safe" you replied.

"I'd have done that regardless, but I'll always accept your trinkets"

He knew you well, your love for trinkets and making things out of them had become quite a key part of your relationship. Again uncaring about getting wet, he pulled you into a hug, pressing a kiss to your forehead.

"I don't deserve you, my heart" he said.

"Yes you do, all you have to do is exist to deserve me" you replied.

In truth, one of the main things that made you fall for him, was his respect and admiration of your deep connection to the water. Your practices and culture as nymph, your unique needs for water. Not many land people took the time to really understand that, but you could trust a Druid would. Nature connected you, earth and water couldn't exist without each other.

Maybe that's why this relationship felt so special, so different and deeper than any others you'd had. He got you, he respected you and he loved you exactly as you were. The waters child and protector. Like he was the guardian of the land.
