Thalia's breath hallowed. She was only a few feet from losing her life.
"I swear she went this way", said the 2 tribute, Maisie. "Well then where the hell is she? We've been chasing her for hours!" Yelled the male tribute from 2.
Thalia didn't know their names. She didn't care. All she cared about was getting out alive and heading back to 4.
Just then, Thalia heard a sickening sound of impact and Maisie's body collapsed. Her empty eyes were met inches away from Thalias. Tribute 2's ax was through her forehead.
1 down out of the remaining careers.
Thalia shrieked, and slapped her hand over her mouth quieting herself. The District one girl screamed.
"What the..!" She wailed. "She was useless anyways. She was bound to die sooner or later." The other boy, from district one boy put her hand on her shoulder. " it's ok, Hazel." He said with a shaky breath, glancing back at Maisie. He grimaced at the sight of the corpse. "Let's get going".
The career pack left and the Sun immediately went down. That's the way it was in this arena, no sunrise or sunset. Just night and day.
Thalia army crawled out from underneath the storage container. This arena was industrial themed, with a bunch of storage containers in a circle being the cornucopia. There were duggen holes underneath, big enough for a tribute to hide under a container.
Maybe this was the game makers idea of a hiding place. Thalia was just greatful she had a place to be left unbothered. At least until if they discover it.
There were only 8 tributes left. Her district partner Flo had passed the day before. He had tried fishing in the saltwater ocean and the sharks got to him. These were mutt sharks, almost like flesh eating saltwater piranhas. They had the ability to flail and jump out of water up to 10 feet, and incredibly fast in water.
Flo died within a second.
Thalia tried her best to erase the split second before it happened from her mind, but it just couldn't go away. Her stomach held a sick anxious feeling, almost enough to throw up.
" Please Finnick. Send me something useful this time." She said, not knowing if he could hear her.
Last night, her mentor had sent her a small water bottle and short letter telling her to stay strong.
Well, that was inspiring, but not very useful in the games. He was always trying to keep Thalia positive, even in the mentor training. Thalia couldn't see anything positive about these games.
Just then, a small parachute fell to the ground before Thalia's feet. She scrambled to pick it up with her trembling hands and looked at it.
For the water - Finnick
P. S. Just keep swimming. Stay alive.survive. No, really? Thalia thought.
"Just keep swimming" was something Finnick always said, to keep Thalia to keep going. It usually worked. She loved when he told her that, because it reminded Thalia of District 4.
She unscrunched the small sack and inside was a thick plastic straw, with a thin sheet of tightly woven mesh on the inside. Thalia held it up to the moonlight and examined it.
