During the fight back from Montserrat, I contemplated everything I wished to ask. Many are for Carr, about the Signet I'm supposed to be writing in the Journal about. And some are for Bodhi, yet only one I'll be able to voice aloud. I'm not writing the question here, nor the details about it. No one is supposed to read this, yet I'm not taking the chance.

T.Valkorin Journal Entry

Two days. It's been two days since Monsterrat, one full day of riding back to Basigath and another spent inside the quadrant before Tierney has had enough of everything she's been wondering and heads out to find answers.

It's by mere coincidence that the first class she has that day is Professor Carr's wielding class.

Tierney sits through 10 minutes of teaching before she is taken into Carr's other, private classroom for her signet lessons, and she's going to get some damned answers.

Carr braces his hands on his desk as he watches Tierney stalk through the door and shut it roughly behind her. His eyes train on the brunette with dark green eyes as she moves to stand in front of his desk.

"What do you want?" The old professor asks, his voice rough and annoyed.

"Will I be able to summon a Gryphon?" Tierney asks shortly, her voice firm. Demanding a simple, straight answer from the professor.

"With much strength, yes." He answers after a quiet moment, taking a breath,  "However, you're a long way off doing it. Why do you think I have you drawing energy into your body until you're at max capacity and then some before allowing you to release it into your summons?"

"Torture," Tierney replies dryly, feeling as if she's being rather truthful on her part. The number of times she's felt as if she's about to explode in Carr's room is uncountable, and the relief of the cold bucket of ice water she dumps over her head after each session is unmatched.

Carr shoots her an unamused look. "Taming a Gryphon as a dragon rider is a hard feat. Maeve wasn't able to do it; she was able to call the Gryphon, but was unable to tame it. They're powerful, prideful creatures. They won't be easy to overpower."

Tierney doesn't need to consider his words, for she knows they're true. She could tell herself that without his words of guidance. "What else can I do with my power? Summoning them isn't all there is to this, is there?"

Carr's eyes narrow on her as he shakes his head. "No."

"Liar." Tierney spits, folding her arms. "Is summoning all you want me to be able to do? Is that all you think I'm capable of?" She narrows her eyes at him. "I've read the entire book you gave me, and I know that the abilities I have are not limited to summoning. What about seeing through their eyes? What of fighting with them?"

"You're not ready," Carr states simply, putting his foot down on the matter as if his words are going to stop a Valkorin

"You forget Maeve." She states, "A quarter of the way through her journal, she begins to see through her summons eyes. Not well, but her teacher teaches her." Tiernery all but spits the insult, "Either you teach me, or I stop showing up, and I teach myself. It will be far more fruitful than expanding my energy capacity."

"You're not ready," Carr repeats firmly, his voice a threat of its own. "Once you can summon well, then we'll talk about expanding into other aspects of your signet."

"Summon well?" Tierney repeats slowly, her voice laced with venom. "Give me any random creature to kill, and I will have it summoned within the hour. I can stand in this room and send them over the mountains with ease. I can control over five at one time. And you're telling me I cannot summon well?"
