Evelyn: I can't believe I have just finished the academy and I am now getting put into an actual fire House.
I know your probably thinking. yeah well thats what usually happens Evelyn. But i am so nervous I just need to remember my last couple of years of training and listen to my captain. Of course I'm nervous, this firehouse is gonna be like a family so i'm intruding on that family, its gonna be hard plus i am just gonna be a probie.
With the 126 the morning of their first shift.
Owen: Welcome everyone I know its going to be abit wierd for a little while but when we are out there it doesn't matter. Am I clear??
All: Yes Captain.
Marjan: Is this everyone?
Tk: Dad wheres the other guy the big guy the last standing member of the original 126?
Owen: Me and the department haven't cleared him for work yet. We have another probie to come but we are early the chief said I could have 2 probies so I'm going to need the rest of you to be on the ball.
Paul: Cap behind you.
Owen: Oh hi, you must be my new probie?
Evelyn: Nice to meet you Captain Evelyn Ryder, reporting for duty. Am I in the wrong house?
Owen: They said I could have two probie's, im guessing you know Mateo.
Mateo: Yeah we were in the academy together.
Owen: uhmm everyone introduce yourselves show her around. Everyone be ready for the next call. I'm gonna go start on some paperwork.
Tk: I know the name Ryder from somewhere.
1 hour later everyone is in the kitchen.
Owen: So in the field Evelyn your Ryder.
Ev: Copy that captain.
Owen: Please in this house call me cap.
The 126 are called to the choking scene.
Owen: Everyone on me, whats the ETA on Ems?
Tk: Supposedly on the way.
Owen: All right, until they get here, you assess the patient.
Tk: Excuse us, Excuse us, let us through.
Owen: Marjan talk to the family. See if he has any allergies. Mateo, Ryder crowd control, move these people back so we have some room to work.
Mateo: Get back, give us room.
Ev: We need space to work and save him  step back.
Michelle: You mean give us some room to work. This scene belongs to us.
Owen: You must have missed the part where they made me the captain of the 126.
Michelle: Michelle Blake, paramedic captain. And this scene is medical, so we run the call.
Owen: Whoa, who, whoa, whoa, whoa, since when do EMS tell fire what time it is?
Michelle: You didn't read the Travis County manual, did you?
Owen: uh, I'm more of a visual learner.
Michelle: In Texts, EMS call the shots involving medical emergencies, so you do what I say, Captain.
Owen looks back at his 2 probies.  Mateo: Oh don't look at me cap.
Ev: She's right captain EMS call the shots on medical scenes.
Paramedic 1: Airways sounds blocked.
Michelle: Blood in the sputum, esophageal spasms. You see his little pepper garden? This is boerhaave syndrome. Get me the suction tool and a 1% solution of Lidocaine-Epineohrine.
Paramedic 2: Here?
Michelle: He's not gonna make it to the hospital. I need fire to help us move him onto the picnic table now.
Owen: You heard the captain. Ryder, Chavez step back.
Michelle: He's got a ruptured esophagus. His chest cavities filling with fluid, drowning his lungs. Ive gotta get the fluid out.
Michelle and the paramedics get him back and take him to the hospital. Fire goes back to the station.
Ev's pov:
Marjan: Hey girl it's going to be so nice having another woman around here.
Ev: Glad I could help you.
Marjan: So can you tell me anything juicy about Mateo from the academy?
Ev: I'm not really into gossiping and believe me the last thing I want is more hassle. Mum died giving birth to me and dad kinda washed his hands of me when I turned 18. Him and my brothers always kind of blamed me for mums death. One of my older brothers used to talk to us but stopped 3 years ago.
Marjan: whats that got to do with anything?
Ev: What I'm trying to say is I don't wanna be involved in more drama I had enough of that growing up being the youngest and the only girl.
The alarm goes off and the two women run to the truck. On the scene.
Police officer: Captain Strand? Officer Reyes, Austin PD. Good to meet you sir.
Owen: Good to meet you.
Reyes: Single vehicle accident.  Looks like she hydroplaned, hit the light pole and rolled the vehicle.
Owen: How many people inside?
Reyes: Just the driver, Alison Parker. Doors are too smashed to get her out, and dont look now but you're about to have an audience.
Owen: Show em what we got, Mateo keep the camera crews back at a safe distance. Medicals still not here? Tk your in charge for now.
Ev: Cap im a duel too I can do both fire and EMS.
Owen: What are you waiting for assist Tk, show me how you do it. Listen to everything Tk Says.
Ev: Got it cap.
Owen: Paul, Marwarni get ready to get the tools we need. Alison, can you hear me? She's unconscious we gotta move.
Paul: Hey, Cap. We got gas in the water. The fuel tank must have busted.
Owen: Everybody but Ev and Tk get back!! Marjan, disengage that battery terminal. Matek, get the CO2. Paul i need you to get me the jaws of life.
Paul: On it cap.
Ev: Uhmm Cap we got a problem, she's pregnant.
Owen: Alison, hold on stay with us. All right team, lets get this windshield off. That includes you, Mateo come here we need you PD can take over crowd control. All right Ev get in there.
Ev: I got a pulse on Alison she's trapped under the steering column.
Owen: Okay get that neck brace on her, if we can't cut her out of the car, we cut the car off of her.
Ev: We gotta get her out. I'm worried about this baby.
The team get the door off the car.
Owen: Hey Alison, stay with us.
Mateo: Hey Cap EMT'S just rolled up.
Owen: Okay get her stable.
Ev: All right. Let's get her up quick. We gotta check on the baby.
Owen: All right guys set her down. Scenes all yours captain, fire fall back.
Michelle: Strong radial pulse. Ma'am? Ma'am.
Alison: My baby! My baby! Is my baby okay?
Michelle: Listen, we're gonna get you to the hospital so they can check on you and your baby, okay?
Alison: This baby and my other baby Henry?? My 10 month old. He's in his car seat in the back.
Michelle looks back at us and me and Owen immediately move back to the car.
Owen: Ev what do you see in there?
Ev: There's baby seat attachments, but no baby seat.
Owen: All right!!
Michelle: Take a deep breath.
Owen: We're looking for a car seat that probably got tossed when this thing rolled. We're gonna assume this child is still alive. Why don't Tk, Ev and Marjan start up at that tree line, the rest of us will look on this side of the bank. We'll meet up in the middle.  Wheres Paul?
Paul: Hey, Cap, over here! We all walk over to Paul. The SUV was already rolling when it struck the pole. She hydroplaned into this guardrail and started rolling from there. The doors must have flung open with some force, because....
We hear a baby crying and look up into a tree.
Marjan: Oh my god.
Mateo: Tell me that is not real.
Ev: Its pretty real.
Owen: Get the ladder in place im going up.
We all watch from the ground cautiously Owen has to step off the ladder and onto the tree, I see Owen reach out before seeing the car seat fall to the ground.
Mateo: Oh no the baby.
Alison just screams as the car seat come crashing to the ground. We all stand there in shock. Before we hear the baby crying and see Owen coming back to the ladder baby in his arms.
Tk: Woo-hoo!!
Paul: Yes Cap.
Mateo: You go Cap.
Marjan: Hey come here they're both okay.
I dont know what come over me I just start sobbing into the hug with Marjan everyone around us still cheering.
All: Yes! Woo-hoo! And applause. Me and Marjan eventually join in.
Owen: I think this belongs to you.
Alison: Thank you! Thank you! God bless ya'll. All of ya'll.
We all start to pack away the tools apart from Tk who was talking to Officer Reyes. We eventually get back to the station. I go to head to bed.
Marjan: Hey wait up, are you alright?
Ev: Yeah calls with kids just get to me, im working on it. Guess I need to work harder.
Marjan: Hey were not robots its okay to have feelings. Just usually we wait until we get back here.
Ev: I'll bare that in mind.
Marjan: We're all going to a bar tomorrow night you should come.
Ev: You don't need to ask me twice i could so drink Ya'll under the table.
The next evening at the bar.
I had just got to the bar and got a drink before locating my team only catching the last bit of the conversation they were in.
Marjan: - I'm gonna need an agent.
Ev: Whats this now?
Mateo: We are already trending as #TheDreamTeam.
Ev: Okay no thats pretty cool.
Paul: You know Michelle this is Nancy and Tim, this is Ev our other probie.
Ev: Hey guys.
Nancy: You did great on the medical side to that call last night.
Ev: Thanks but Tk was also there he deserves some credit too.
Owen: No phones at the table, evening Ev. Heres to.... to the future of the 126, and the memory of the old.
Marjan: Cheers.
Paul: Hear, hear.
We all go off into separate conversations. They play a great song to line dance to.
Michelle: Captain Strand, shall we??
Owen: Oh no, no you do not wanna see me line dance.
Michelle: Oh, are you shy? I thought you weren't scared of anything.
Owen: Ahhh now I see why you invited us all here. I see you. Trying to exert your dominance?
Michelle: Well I just think a man should have to earn his spurs.
We all head to the dance floor obviously being a Texan I know what I'm doing, but some of these guys haven't got a clue. As me and Marjan are dancing I lock eyes with a familiar face throwing me off completely and stepping on Marjans toes.
Marjan: Oww woah you good?
Ev: I'm sorry, uhm im- I need some air.
I run outside and start breathing heavily. Oh no not now are you kidding me? I'm still breathing heavily when I hear the door open and Nancy comes joolgging over to me.
Nancy: Hey Marjan said you went home, take a breath for me tour alright, come over here.
We sot down on the floor and she places my head between my legs and we work on my breathing.
Nancy: What happened?
Ev: I saw my brother i haven't seen or heard from in 3 years it kinda threw me.
Nancy: Do you get panic attacks often?
Ev: They're pretty regular for me I can usually calm myself down though after a little bit.
Marjan: Hey there you are, I thought you went home?
Nancy: I found her out here in the middle of a panic attack.
Marjan: What? Are you okay?
Ev: I am now but I'm wiped im just gonna head home.
Nancy: I am not about to let you drive.
Ev: Its a good job I dont drive then isn't it? I meant get an uber.
Marjan: I was beading home myself I'll drive you come on. See you at the station tomorrow Nancy.
Ev: Yeah bye!
Nancy: Us 3 girls are going to be like the three musketeers i just know it.
I end up crashing on Marjans sofa because she didn't want to leave me alone. In the morning she drives me to mine and waits with me until I get changed before she drives us both to the station. I didn't tell her why I had the panic attack.
Marjan: Morning 126!! Wheres Cap?
Tk: In a meeting.
Ev: Its 8am in the morning.
I hear a commotion on the other side of the truck. Me Paul and Mateo go to see whats going on. There sat on the floor is my big bro sobbing.
Owen: Alright Chavez, Strickland why don't you get breakfast started? The rest of you go somewhere else. Nothing that comes out of a box.
I'm reluctant but he's my captain so I follow his orders.
A little while later they come into the kitchen to join us.
Owen: Hey we've room for one more dont we? And look colleen and Mable brought us cookies.
Tk: Who?
Judd: The wife and daughter of Chuck Parkland.
Mateo: Ohh how sweet of them.
Judd: Evelyn....
Ev: Juddson....
Nancy: Wait that's the guy you were on about??
Marjan: Whats this now??
Ev: I'll tell you later.
Tk: I knew I'd hear Ryder somewhere before.
Owen: Oh, you know what that's only just clicked. I'm guessing you two aren't on good terms?
Ev: When your big bro suddenly stops talking to you you kinda take a hint.
Judd: Look Eve, I- I'm sorry. I'm trying okay why don't you come round tonight and we can talk about it.
Owen: Can you two work together out in the field of needed?
Judd: I can if she can.
Ev: Oh its on.
