It was the third day of Team 7 being in the Forest of Death and all three members were not doing so well. They were recently attacked by the Snake Sanin, who disguised himself as a Grass Ninja to sneak into the Chunin Exams, and Sasuke was given a Curse Mark while Naruto had the Kyuubi's cut off from him by the Five Pronged Seal and he was injected with an experimental serum that Orochimaru claimed would kill him, leaving Sakura the only member conscious and able to actually do anything until her teammates could recover.

Kurama was sitting in the cage, annoyed as usual, and could feel the effects of the serum taking effect in Naruto's body.
