Adjacent to the family area was a daycare center, where Wen Ai was once entrusted by his parents for over a month. However, he adamantly refused to go there again and instead ran to Mrs. Wang's house across the street every day to hide.
Mrs. Wang, an elderly widow living alone, welcomed the company of children in her quiet house. She eagerly offered to help take care of the children for free, which delighted Wen Ai's parents. They thanked Mrs. Wang profusely and even gave her a bunch of supplements.
There was also a little girl named Miao Miao in the family area who never set foot in the daycare center. She stayed at home every day with her mother, who was unemployed. While the other children went to school during the weekdays, Wen Ai often played with Miao Miao.
"Huh?" Miao Miao ran out from the entrance of the building and crouched down beside Wen Ai, who was playing with mud. She curiously glanced at Yue Xiao behind him and asked, "Junjun, who is this?"
Wen Ai, busy building his mud house, replied absentmindedly, "Don't know, no idea which family he's from."
"Oh." Miao Miao rolled up her sleeves, intending to make a mud figure. As she dug into the mud on the ground, she looked up at Yue Xiao and asked, "Hey, what's your name? Why haven't I seen you before?"
Yue Xiao glanced at Wen Ai first, seeing no response, then politely smiled at Miao Miao, "Hello, I'm Yue Xiao."
"I'm Wu Sitian, but everyone calls me Miao Miao," Miao Miao smiled back at him. "You can call me by my nickname."
Miao Miao, this little girl, was quite cheerful. She invited Yue Xiao to join them in making a tank, but Yue Xiao, not wanting Wen Ai to feel like he was stealing his friend, shook his head politely to decline, silently standing aside and watching them play.
Mrs. Wang and Miao Miao's mother sat on a bench not far away, chatting. They occasionally glanced over here to prevent any potential child traffickers from deceiving the children with sweets.
Wen Ai and Miao Miao created a whole army of tanks and fighter jets. After thoroughly enjoying themselves, they ran to a resident's home on the first floor to borrow the tap and wash their hands. Then, they discussed going to the flowerbed to pick up flowers to play with.
Yue Xiao had been following closely behind Wen Ai the whole time. Although he didn't say a word, Wen Ai still got annoyed.
"Are you a shadow?" Wen Ai turned around, glaring at Yue Xiao and complaining with folded arms, "You're always stuck to my backside. Don't you find yourself annoying?"
"I want to protect you," Yue Xiao looked at him seriously, then added after a pause, "Father said so."
"Protect?" Wen Ai snorted, grabbed Yue Xiao's slender arm, and shook it, "With you like this, I could take on ten of you."
The voices of the five or six-year-old children were very tender. Wen Ai, who looked cute, now had a domineering attitude. Although Yue Xiao was scolded by him, he couldn't muster any anger. Instead, he felt a slight sense of satisfaction, secretly hoping his younger brother would talk to him more, even if it meant being scolded like this.
Wen Ai and Miao Miao wandered around the flowerbed picking "Judge's Grass". As they walked near the store, a large wolfhound suddenly appeared from somewhere, showing its fierce teeth and dripping saliva, as if ready to bite off the heads of these little kids with just one snap.
The big dog barked wildly and pounced towards the three of them. Wen Ai screamed in fright, clutching his hands tightly to his chest.
Yue Xiao was scared too, but upon hearing Wen Ai's scream, his feet involuntarily took a step forward. He pulled the dumbfounded Wen Ai behind him and stood straight in front of him, shielding him from danger.
