Nora's POV:-

" They make a beautiful couple don't they?" Leslie my coworker sighs.

" And that man is positively yum. I heard he owns the entire building." Jenna the sommelier whispers to us. She had recently broken up with her boyfriend but she didn't seem too hung up on her ex right now.

Most of the people in the restaurant have been surreptitiously checking out the buxom brunette and the dashing man sitting opposite her. I wish I could ignore those two but I couldn't. It was impossible not to stare at Derek and Clara and to feel the sizzling chemistry between them.

Why were people like them given so much beauty? Not to mention wealth. It's not fair God. Surely I am not a worse sinner than them?

" Nora I think they want you to take their order." Leslie nudges me.

Derek is watching me and he looks positively smug as I grudgingly head in his direction. I try not to look at Clara lest I strangle her but I still catch her rolling her eyes as I approach their table.

" Côte de veau with sage and capers. A glass of Pinot noir. " He says brusquely.
" What will you have Clara ?"

" The same as you." She bats her eyelashes at him and it almost makes me gag for some reason.

For the next half hour I try to pretend that the two of them don't exist but I still find my ears tuned to their conversation.

"Katy has always been a bitch. How did Diana react to the interview? Is she okay?" Clara's voice is full of mock concern or maybe it's genuine and I only feel that way because I don't like her.

" She's always been a sensitive kid. And the last thing that she wanted was to have someone talk about her on live television." Derek looks like he wants to say more but he pauses and turns to look in my direction.

I turn around just in time but I can feel his eyes bore in my back.

" Let's talk about more pleasant things, shall we? I don't want to ruin your mood." He says and I cringe knowing it's because he doesn't want me listening in on them.

" As long as you take me home tonight I have no objections," Clara speaks sultrily.

Gross, I think to myself.

I somehow manage to serve them their dishes without fidgeting or making a fool of myself. I try to avoid eye contact with both of them, especially Derek. Luckily he's too engrossed in what Clara has to say to give me any attention.

When they finally get up to leave I breathe a sigh of relief. Is this going to become a daily occurrence? Him coming to eat at the restaurant? Me spending the next hour or so constantly on edge? Me praying for him to leave and to only be able to relax once he's gone?

Why the hell did he start coming here in the first place? Obviously, he knew that this restaurant existed but he didn't care to come here before. I guess I only have Kevin to blame. He was the one who first brought him here.

Apparently, the asshole loved the food so much that he's made a habit of coming here. However, I also can't help but suspect that getting to torment me on each visit is also part of the attraction.

" You get going, Clara. Wait for me in the car. I have a few things I need to sort out." I tense up as I hear Derek's words.

I stand still as a statue as I clear one of the tables hoping that he isn't going to talk to me.

"Shouldn't a prim and proper lady like you know it's bad to eavesdrop?" I feel his breath against my ear and I jump startled.

" Relax I am not going to hurt you. At least not this time. Right now you are a source of amusement for me." He smirks and I wonder how a man could look so beautiful and obnoxious at the same time.
