That night I stood by the couch, just waiting for a text from Vance telling me he's here. It was ten at night and Amy was already asleep. She had school tomorrow, of course since it was Sunday today. Normally, I'd have school too, but since I did sort of participate in the fight a bit I had O.S.S for a few days.

Of course, I wasn't leaving Amy alone in the house tonight. I had surprisingly found the phone number to our old babysitter from a few years ago and she picked up. I told her I'd pay her to watch Amy 'til I got back from bowling, and she was happy to oblige. She was a wonderful babysitter when we had her.

Last time we had her I was 12 and Amy was 2. I didn't expect Amy to remember her, since it had been a few years, but it's alright. She's sweet and caring. Plus, Amy should be asleep the whole time I'm gone.

Then my phone buzzed and I read the 'I'm here' text. I turned and faced Melissa, the babysitter, and gave her a small smile. "See you later," I told her, and she nodded back at me. I left through the front door, quietly as to not wake Amy up. There Vance was, sitting in a beat up car. He gave me a small smile as I got in the passenger seat.

As we drove there it was awkwardly silent..until Vance began to talk. At first it was just him talking and me awkwardly agreeing or disagreeing, but soon it formed into us actually talking. It was weirdly nice to talk to him, like I've said before.

When we got to the bowling alley none of our group was there yet. Vance and I decided to grab a booth and the others would arrive shortly. Though, after I texted the group chat asking where everyone was most of them replied that they were now unable to, wether it was their parents decided it was too late to go, or if they were just too tired.

I looked up from my phone to see Vance struggling with the machine where we entered our names. He kept violently poking at the screen muttering the same two words, "two players." I stood up, walking over to him and carefully moving his hand away. I gently tapped the screen, and of course it worked for me. "Dumb luck," Vance scoffed as he made a pouty face.

I just laughed as I only typed in our names. "Did the shitheads say when they're coming?" Vance asked as he stared at the screen, his arms crossed. I shook my head, mumbling out a small apology for them not being able to make it. Vance shrugged his shoulders though, an expression on his face that said he couldn't care less. "Bet most of them didn't want me here anyways."

I bit my cheek at that comment. He wasn't wrong, though. Billy didn't want him there, nor Finney, nor did I at first. But I put a grin on my face a softly punched his shoulder. "Well we ain't just gonna stand here and do nothin', hopper," I told him, a hint of confidence in my voice. He looked at me, raising an eyebrow. I nodded my head at a resting bowling ball, then to the lane we were at, saying, "go ahead. Show me those 'lame' bowling skills of yours."

Vance turned away from me, heading towards the bowling ball, but I could see that grin on his face. Last night while we were texting about bowling he had mentioned how 'lame' he was, and I said he couldn't be as bad as me. In a way I was sort of happy it was just him and I at the bowling alley. I sure know my friends would find it weird and suspicious that me and Vance were all chatty and stuff like that.

Soon it was nearing midnight, and Vance looked at his phone and then me. "Yo, you gotta go home or somethin'?" He asked awkwardly.

I looked at him with a confused expression. "Uhm...if you want me to?" I replied, probably shedding more awkwardness by the second.

We stared at each other for a second as Vance slowly realised how he had phrased his previous statement. He suddenly got flustered and stammered out a small apology followed by, "nah..I meant like it's gettin' close to midnight. Don't you got school tomorrow?"

I quietly giggled, shaking my head no. "I got in trouble too..so I have O.S.S for the next few days," I admitted to Vance with a shy smile.

Vance grew teasing grin as he spoke, "wow, who knew goody-two shoes bruce got in trouble." I rolled my eyes, but I grinned following after.
