Chapter Six: Tyrann's Apartment

Tyrann parked his car in a random spot closest to the apartment building he and his sister called home.

" I thought you guys would have designated parking spots. "

" No.. The superintendent just lets us park anywhere. "

Akai laughed as she got out of the car grabbing the suitcase she'd shoved underneath the seat. With quick footsteps she took out the spare apartment key from her purse and headed towards the building labeled B. There were five separate apartment buildings on the lot each one with a letter from A to E with a little gap in between each building. Each building had five floors that all had to be accessed by metal stairs leading up to each floor from the outside of the building. Each floor had a metal walkway that wrapped around the back of the building leaving an open hole in the center and front of the building with the stairs being positioned at the beginning and the end of such walkways except for the 5th which ended in a railing right before the stairs between it and the fourth floor. Each floor had seven apartments except for the 5th which had eight and the first which had none. Four on one side and three on the other. Where the four apartments would be on the first floor was instead a laundry room available for the tenants to use at any time.

Tyrann followed Akai as she headed up the stairs, both of them stopping at the door marked 204. Akai unlocked the plain looking white door since she had already pulled out her key and pushed it open.

Tyrann's apartment was small. A one wall kitchen took up a small portion of the wall to the left of the door (when entering). The kitchen itself had light colored wooden cabinets, gray granite countertops and metallic looking appliances with the same panels on them that Akai had at her house. Across from that was the plain white couch facing a TV on top of a wooden shelf the same color as their cabinets, turned onto the local news even though Kaine was nowhere in sight. The coffee table in between the couch and the TV had black cushions around it since it doubled as the dining table. The same tablet-like panel that came with TV's these days was the only thing on it. A purple blanket with pink stripes on it (though it looked and felt more like a beach towel) hung over the back of the couch. A matching pillow was leaning against one of the armrests. To the right of the door (when entering was a glass pedestal table with a built-in panel on it that controlled the lights (the standard in every house in the New Age). A bed that folded into the wall was in the corner along the same wall as the pedestal table with another panel on the wall next to it. Across from the pedestal table was a small hallway that led to a coat closet and a bathroom. A glass display shelf across from the wall bed functioned as a medicine cabinet. The large window that looked out to the front of the building was covered by blackout curtains.

" Where the hell did your sister go? " Akai asked, slipping her keys back into her purse.

" Well since the shower's running I'd assume she's in there using all our hot water. " Tyrann said as he hung his keys on the small wall hook above the pedestal table. Akai couldn't help but snicker at that. She walked over to the coat closet and lugged an air mattress along with a black blanket and pillow out from it, setting up her makeshift bed in the space between the medicine cabinet and the hallway (facing the pedestal table). The dim light bulb casted shadows practically everywhere.

" Well, now what. I have a feeling you're not going to let me study. "

" Correct. " Tyrann peeked out the window wincing from the bright light of the setting sun.

" You ok. Did it burn anywhere? " Akai asked getting up from her bed.

" No. Thank the Shadowlord.. I don't want to end up in the hospital because of a burn. "

" I don't either... " Akai said, sitting back down. She took out her holo phone, sliding her claw across the screen, the dimmed blue light of the holograph showing that she had an unread message from her father.
