When Akai woke up, the first thing she saw was smoke. Smoke that was coming from her own arm and leg.

" Ahhh! What the fuck! " She yelled, pulling into the shadows of the hallway and away from the light that had managed to sneak through the blackout curtains. Tyrann immediately snapped awake at the sound of Akai's scream but Kaine stayed fast asleep, somehow able to sleep through anything. Tyrann ran over to her, his eyes displaying the panic he was trying to hide.

" What happened?! How bad is it?! Are you ok?! "

" Tyrann. I'm fine. It must have just started happening when I woke up. "

Tyrann grabbed her arm inspecting it and then looked at her leg finding no burned skin. But the panic refused to leave his eyes.

" Are you sure? Just because it doesn't look like there's anything wrong on the outside doesn't mean that something isn't wrong. "

" I mean, it hurts like hell but otherwise I'm fine..."

" You can't even open your eyes, the light must have hit them pretty hard. "

" Yeah. A little bit. "

Tyrann pried open one of her eyes and she immediately cried out from some unseen pain.

" You're not fine. Put on your sunglasses and keep them on all day, I'll walk you to your classes and you'll be spending your lunch in my office where I can keep an eye on you. "

Akai nodded, finally understanding why he acted this way every time she came close to being burned.

" I need to hear you say it. "

" Ok. "

Tyrann helped her up off the floor and opened the bathroom door watching as she limped heavily towards it.

" Ok. That's it! You're spending the day with me in the chemistry room. I'll have Ivy bring the work you can do outside of class to you. I'd ask Isamu to do it but he's unreliable. "

Akai tried to bite back a laugh, grabbing the uniform Tyrann held out to her before shutting the door.

" Tyrann! What the hell happened?! "

" Akai got burned! Some light must have snuck in through the blackout curtains. "

" Or someone must have forgotten to pull them closed all the way when they were at the window last night. "

Kaine backed herself against the wall scared for her life as she saw the look in her brother's eyes change from panic to a mix of pure guilt and fear. Her eyes widened as she saw Tyrann flex his claws preparing to dig the sharp points into her neck.

And then the door opened and Akai came out wincing as she tied her hair up in her usual bun. Kaine gasped and took the chance to run towards the bathroom door and slam it shut.

" What the- Is she ok? "

Tyrann turned towards her, setting his claws by his sides. Akai noticed the look in his eyes right away.

" It wasn't your fault.... " She said, knowing that her reassurance was hopeless. She knew Tyrann had a tendency to overreact to everything. He couldn't control his emotions and it had tended to get him in trouble more often than not. And she was smart enough to worry about where his emotions would lead him now.
