Amara and Aicha had arrived at the bottom of Sagiri Mountain and already, a heavy fog was making its appearance. Aicha squinted her eyes a bit to have some of her vision return to her but it was no use, the fog was thickening by the second and the air was getting a bit thinner.
"This fog is making everything around us like a white sheet, I can't even see my feet now." Amara says.
Snap!
The twins turn to the sound of the breaking twig and immediately grabbed the hilt of their weapons. Heavy footsteps approached the two, and Amara frowned her eyes, trying to see what was coming from the fog.
The footsteps ceased their approach and the twins readied themselves for any potential surprise attacks. Two sets of brown eyes looked around the area carefully, the fog's clouding up to their knees now.
"Who are you?" The question echoed around their heads and the sisters braced themselves back to back, weapons still sheathed.
"We were told to come here." Amara speaks up.
"By who? What for?" The husky voice interrogates.
"We are looking for someone, a former Hashira." Aicha answers next.
"A Hashira? Do you slay demons?" The questions are poured out and the footsteps continue again.
"If they get in our way. We protect people from demons, and fight for those who don't have the strength to face demons." Amara says.
To their left, a shadow shaped as a man came from the fog, finally stepping into the siblings viewpoint. A red tengu mask is what they are faced with, along with a white cloth that covers his head and wraps around his neck. The twins noticed that he had silver hair and wrinkles appeared on the little visibility he had around his face, obviously noted that they were dealing with an older man. The man wore a cloud-patterned jinbei kimono with navy colored pants which are fastened at his shins by white kyahan guards.
"Are you Sakonji Urokodaki?" Amara questions as the man comes closer till he was in her personal space. His tengu mask looks closely at Amara and, she frowns at the close proximity. His aura was suffocating to say the least, and the urge to take a step back to have some kind of breathing room seemed like the appropriate approach at the moment. He analyses both young women until he straightens his back again.
"Follow me." Is all he utters and turns his back to the twins, leaving them in the heavy fog he had found them in.
Amara and Aicha follow behind him, albeit as soon as he disappeared in the fog, he was already a whole mile ahead of them.
"Do you think-?"
"Mother did say, he wore a red tengu mask and a robe that had clouds on it. He must be who we are looking for. If not, we take any means necessary to protect ourselves." Amara says and Aicha agrees quietly.
The old man was taking them down the mountain and making so many sharp turns and paths that would make anyones head spin. Wherever he was taking them, he was making sure that they didn't find a way back to where they were originally. Thankfully, the heavy fog that was blinding them was gone and now they could see that it was the middle of the night, just from how high the moon was, it was perhaps close to midnight.
"Come now, it is getting late and I have other things to attend to." He scolds to the twins and the siblings speed up their pace to be walking behind him.
After another hour of twists and turns on the dirt roads, the old man leads them to a small house, surrounded by the forest.
He slides open the shoji door and nods to the twins, who step into the house and remove their kyahans leaving them only in their colored socks.
