The flowing river bend sets a calm demeanor to the atmosphere, as the weeks past by for the two sisters. Ideally, their trip to where Urokodaki I would be living should have taken them at the latest two to three weeks to arrive, however, with the demons roaming around at night, time wasn't on their side.
The sun felt nice on Amara's skin that morning, and she inhaled the crisp morning air with a small grin to her lips. Even with how dark Japan is in right now, it was the little things that made this dark world a little bit brighter.
"Sister, look there." Amara turns to her right to see Aicha pointing at a small village down the valley.
"Should we stop?" Aicha asks and Amara hums a bit as she moves to stand next to a tree, overlooking the village.
From what she could see, it was a small village, didn't seem like much happened here and the smell of demons was very, very faint. Even the people there seemed carefree and oblivious.
"We can get some more supplies, we're both running low on soap." Amara says and Aicha nods.
They both slide down the steep hill to end up on a dirt road leading to the village.
As usual, the people of the village stares at them with no shame, as if they hadn't seen anyone with dark skin before. They were human, young women just like the others in the village there was no need for the gawking.
Each person that owned a stand peeked their head out to stare at the two women, there were even some who ran into some inns and shops to gossip about the newcomers.
Amara sighs quietly, this has been happening at every village they have passed through and thankfully their mother had taught them that: because they looked different, people were still going to question and stare. It was best to ignore them.
"Relax, sister we are only here for a couple of minutes. Remember mother's words: they only stare because they are bedazzled by our beauty." Aicha tells her sister and Amara sends her younger sibling a smile.
"Of course, Aicha. I have never forgotten mother's words. I never will." Aicha returns a smile and points to a stand far off from the others.
The old man sitting on a box looks up at them and gives them a gentle smile. His kind face reminded the twins of their grandfather and they returned the warm smile.
"How may I help you ladies?"
"Do you by chance sell soap? Scented soap perhaps?" Aicha asked.
The old man uses the cane he had sitting between his legs and stands to his feet. He waddles behind his stand and begins rummaging through the many essentials he had sitting on display.
"Let's see here..." he mutters quietly.
The twins wait patiently for the old man until suddenly Amara straightens her back and cuts her eyes to the left, using her peripheral vision to see a group of men coming close.
Their aura alone was parting the sudden crowded village folk like the Red Sea. Mothers gripped their children and immediately returned to their homes, some stands closed shop for the day and inns turned off their lights to show there was no vacancies.
"Sister." Amara calls.
"I see them." She whispers to her twin, placing her hands by her hips to prepare herself for anything.
"Ahhh here we go, I knew I had a small box of lavender soap somewhere. Hey, I'll you this box for a great price if you're willing to lend an ear." The old man tells the twins who continue smiling at him, still willing engaging with him and watching their backs for the upcoming crowd of men.
