As the evening descended, Lena and Kara explored the mansion's quieter corners, the air filled with a sense of serenity. Lena shared tales of laughter, challenges, and quiet moments that unfolded within the walls of the Luthor estate.
"This is the music room." Lena explained, gesturing towards an elegant space with a grand piano at its center. "Lillian insisted on piano lessons. It was both a joy and a source of frustration for me because I still have no idea how to play the thing."
Kara chuckled, imagining a younger Lena navigating the intricacies of both music and family expectations. "I can picture you here, surrounded by the echoes of classical melodies." She turned and saw a staircase, tucked away in the far corner that she hadn't noticed before. "Where does that go?"
Lena turned and followed Kara's gaze. "That leads to an underground vault where my parents keep their most prized sculptures and very expensive collectables. It's a part of the estate that is rarely seen unless you were allowed to see it. I can take you for a look if you like?"
Curiosity sparked in Kara's eyes. "Are you allowed to take me down there? I don't want to get into trouble with your parents."
"Kara..." Lena held her hand out. "I usually just do what I wish in my family home. Of course I can take you down to have a look."
Intrigued, Kara nodded, and Lena led her down the staircase, the automatic lights coming on as they walked, the air growing cooler as they descended into the depths of the mansion. The stone walls seemed to whisper tales of a hidden history, and the dimly lit passage added an air of mystery.
Reaching the vault, Lena input the code and the heavy metal doors slid aside to reveal a vast chamber, its walls adorned with sculptures of various styles and eras. The soft glow of lights showcased the art collection, creating an underground gallery that seemed to breathe with life.
"This chamber used to serve as a doomsday bunker as I used to call it when I was younger but because there was no use for it to be that anymore, father converted it into a sanctuary for their passion for art. Each sculpture tells a story, a piece of history immortalized in stone." Lena remarked, her eyes dancing with appreciation for the artistic treasures around them. "There's much more to this family that many people don't know about. They are mostly just associated with Luthor Corp but in reality they are also collectors."
Kara, surrounded by the silent beauty of the sculptures, couldn't help but be awestruck. "It's like stumbling upon a hidden treasure trove. Your family's appreciation for art is incredible."
"And that's why I said you'll get along with them just fine, darling." Lena let her look around for a bit longer before she let out a yawn.
Kara noticed and walked back over to her. "I think we should get some sleep. It looks like you've had a long day but thank you for the tour. Your family's history is truly fascinating." She said, appreciating the depth of what she had experienced.
Lena smiled. "I'm glad you enjoyed it, Kara because I also had a great time tonight." She looped her arms around Kara's broad shoulders. "Come on. I'll show you where we will be sleeping." She pulled Kara along and back into the foyer.
Lena's room was on the second floor and at the very end of the hallway. She opened the door, revealing a space adorned with tasteful furnishings and a comfortable bed. Taking a moment to glance around the room, she felt a flood of memories resurface. "It's been a while since I've slept in this room. So many moments, both happy and challenging, are embedded in these walls. I don't usually stay the night. I have dinner then Lex takes me home."
Kara, standing beside her, couldn't help but sense the emotional weight that lingered in the air. "It must hold a lot of memories for you."
Lena nodded. "This room witnessed my teenage years, my dreams, and even my rebellious phases. It's strange being back here."
