"I love you too, but, I can't do this to Deku. I'm sorry."
The words on Katsuki's forearm, cementing for him in his head forever that he would never be any one's first choice, not even his so called soulmate. He told himself he didn't care, but the truth was, it had been eating at him since he realized what those words implied. How could Deku, powerless, worthless Deku be more appealing to his soulmate than him. Katsuki didn't take blows to his ego well, but the idea that the person who was, arguably, created for him, and him for them, would choose anybody over him, was devastating. He had researched it a bit, well, more than he would ever admit, he had learned that sometimes the words changed, he had suspected that maybe, one day, his would. Any hope he had that would happen evaporated after the sports festival his first year of high school. Everyone in class could see Ochaco Uraraka and Deku were in the midst of the most pathetic flirtation he had ever seen. She was a petite, bouncy, not his type. So she probably wasn't the future Mrs. Midoriya. But than they fought at the sport's festival, and he began to worry. He thought about her a lot, he tried so hard to tell himself it didn't mean anything, she was pretty, strategic, and bad ass, but he wouldn't take Deku's sloppy seconds for her. When he started having the dreams, however, he thought the only way to fix it might be to actually try to get her out from under Deku before it got more serious than mutual pining. He had made arrangements for their trip to America, but than Deku had wound up on that fucking island with them. He had gotten one on one time with her, but all she had wanted to talk about was Deku. His first time making out and the bitch pulls away half way through it sobbing for Deku? Well, she was definitely his soulmate, and so at the very least, his feelings weren't unfounded. 'Last words your soulmate says to you' whoever ran this shitshow had a cruel sense of humor. The number of stories that came out 'spent forty years with her, she never said those words to me, so I never said good bye.' Katsuki would never have domestic bliss, so he might as well focus on becoming number one hero. Than he started getting closer to Deku, and now he thought the words had to change, right? He wouldn't try to steal Deku's wife from him.. There was no way. He still cared for her, told himself she was like a sister even though the dreams and thoughts he had for her were far from fraternal. He had been Deku's best man, but the words still hadn't changed. He tried to hide them from Deku, but he was sure he had seen them at some point. It didn't feel good, knowing his relationship with his soulmate would be something gross. Something that would hurt Deku. So he just wouldn't have a relationship with her, but no matter how much he ignored her, the words stayed the same.
So here he was, tense as she rested against his chest, she was asleep. It was her first time away from her baby since she had him, so he wasn't going to wake her, he also thought that the way she was curled against him was nice. He hadn't been touched with any sort of affection in so long. He just tried to stay still. He hated seeing all of the people taking pictures of them. He flipped them off, he didn't want pictures of him curled up with Ochaco circulating. He was always sure to wear long sleeves in public, like most public figures, but he was worried that someone had somehow seen it, and that it would make the tabloids if this was made too public. He huffed, shaking her awake. She groaned, looking at him with sleepy eyes.
"where is-"
"he's with Deku. We're at a convention, remember?"
Ochaco yawned, nodding her head "Oh yeah." Deku had wanted her to return to the public eye in a place that had a lot of security. She was still weak from childbirth. She huffed, couldn't have been easy for Katsuki, the birth of the number one hero's child had been all anyone wanted to talk about for month. Deku had everything Katsuki had wanted at least at one point.. it wasn't fair, but nothing could be done.
"You know why Deku had us do this together right?"
Katsuki looked at his knees with a frown, because he trusted him.
"Because you haven't been over to meet the baby. He's trying to guilt trip you into coming."
Katsuki huffed "That manipulative-"
"You're his best friend! He wants you to meet him. I don't understand why-"
"Lower your fucking voice!"
"But I-"
Katsuki groaned, standing up and leading her towards somewhere more private.
"You know damn well why I haven't been there to see that kid."
"No Katsuki. I really don't-"
"You've seen my fucking forearm."
"You still think it's me?"
"Who else would it be?"
"Some crazed fan! I don't know! Why do you think it's me?"
He could see in her eyes that she thought the same thing. He rolled his eyes at her and sighed. It was bad enough Deku talked about the kid constantly, which he didn't blame him for, by any means, but he didn't like listening to it, he didn't like where his mind went when he talked about it. He sighed, but they had kissed, a lot, and the spark hadn't been there.. So maybe it was just some crazed fan and he had been worrying about nothing all these years.. He huffed
"I'll come meet him later. Okay?"
Ochaco looked at the floor, "Thank you." she murmured "It will make him so happy, he's been worried you're mad at him."
Katsuki felt bad, "I'm not mad at him.. He has to know why I-"
"He doesn't seem to." she murmured "He's also said he doesn't care about it. He got a tattoo over his, and I'm looking into getting one over mine."
Katsuki frowned "huh." he felt relived by that. Maybe Deku wasn't clueless. He remembered what her arm said. It said 'I love you, cheeks."
"Does it still say the same thing?"
She nodded her head with a sigh, "I assume it means I'm going to die after Deku." She murmured
Katsuki huffed "I think soulmates are just a genetic compatibility thing. Healthy kids or something."
Ochaco frowned, the same had occurred to her, when they started trying for Kaz, had she been cheating her child? Surely nonsoulmates had kids together all the time.. It didn't have to be a perfect match, right? Kaz was healthy. Everything was fine.
"Doesn't explain us professing our love to each other." She huffed
"well. I guess it's good our last words don't make sense to us." Katsuki shrugged,
Ochaco sighed "one of the last things I do is going to be talking myself out of cheating on Deku."
Katsuki groaned "This is why I avoid you! Damn it! I'm not discussing this with you anymore."
Ochaco nodded, "Just be there for Deku. Okay? He didn't do anything wrong."
"I said I would come visit the brat, didn't I!"
"Yes. Thank you." she smiled "want to hear about him?"
"I have a feeling I don't have a choice."
Ochaco nodded, pulling out her phone to show him pictures
"When did you get a smart phone?"
"After he was born.. Easier to take pictures."
Katsuki smiled weakly "cute kid. Looks like Deku."
