Katsuki trempled as he pulled himself up off the ground, blinded by tears as he lifted his best friend off the ground and took him to the nearest medical professional who confirmed what he already knew. Deku was dead, and it was all his fault. He stared at Deku, at his chest wound, he had seen Deku look so much more beaten up, he had seen him take on much bigger and scarier villains, but Izuku Midoriya was killed by an unnamed villain, who had been trying to hit Katsuki Bakugo. Because of Katsuki Bakugo a father would never come home to his baby boy, a husband would never hold his wife again, and half of Japan just lost all hope for the future. What would have happened if it had been him? Deku would have needed to cancel his fucking cable package. Katsuki was no stranger to the sensation of self loathing, but this, hurt so much worse than any pain he had ever felt. His lungs were crumbling, his head was swimming, he couldn't see, he couldn't hear, he wasn't sure what was going on around him. 'It should have been me. It should have been me. It should have been me.' He needed to stop with the self pity, he needed to get to Ochako, see if she needed anything. He needed to call Inko. They were the ones who were going to suffer from this loss. He stood up with a sigh, he took his mask off and wiped his eyes and saw the black makeup that covered his fingers. He looked at his friend one more time, hoping he would wake up, he had beaten the odds hundreds of times! But he didn't, the overwhelming pain in Katsuki's body faded a bit, but he had a feeling it would never be going away, not entirely.

"I'm sorry, Izuku." he murmured, "I love you too." he sighed, as he turned around, he wasn't sure who to call first, Inko or Ochako. He supposed Ochako was only a few blocks away, so he would walk home to her. He called Inko on his way, he knew it wasn't something she heard on the phone, but he thought it would be better than seeing it on the news.

"Ms. Midoriya I- What are you doing right now?"

"I'm cooking, why?"

"I want you to go sit down in the living room."

"Wh-what's going on?" Inko's heart stopped in her chest as she heard Katsuki begin to cry, no. No! Izuku was the most powerful man in Japan! He was indestructible.

"Wh-what happened? Do I need to get to the hospital I-"

"N-no. There's no- You don't have to get to the hospital. H-he's gone. He's already gone."

Inko shook her head "But-"
"He's gone Ms. Midoriya I-I'm not going to tell you how, okay? I-I'll spare you the details, just know it was fast, okay? His last words were to tell Ochako he loves her and that he's sorry for lying. I just-"

Inko wasn't listening, her head was spinning, she was the number one hero's mother, she had always known this could happen, but she had never thought it would, not really. The number of times he was brought back from the brink of death? She was just so sure this wasn't possible, and a part of her felt like this wasn't real, it couldn't be. She turned the stove off, and went and sat on her couch.

"Ms. Midoriya?

Inko looked at the blank tv screen with empty eyes "Th-thank you Katsuki." she said softly, as she hung up the phone and just sort of sat in her living room and stared at nothing. She had lost her son. Ochako was now a single mother, Kazuku no longer had a father. She was in so much pain, she felt numb, like her brain had switched off to keep her alive. It was oddly reminiscent of the day Izuku's father left. She should call Ochako, see if she needed anything. That would be best, if they were together. Right? Inko frowned, but that boy looked so much Izuku.. He was named after him.. Surely she could get past that to help her daughter in law? Inko felt awful, but she wasn't sure if she could. Oh poor Kazuku. She hoped he would understand. Izuku had loved him more than anything. But she supposed it would be difficult to convince him of  that when he gave his life for someone else.

Katsuki frowned when Ochako answered the door with a smile on her face.
"I was beginning to-" She saw who it was and realization hit so hard she tasted blood, she started sobbing

"He didn't make it, did he?"

Katsuki shook his head, as he began to sob again himself he wrapped his arms around her, and they both wound up on the floor, holding each other as they cried. They sobbed until they couldn't breathe. Ochako gasped for breath as she pulled herself to her feet and closed the door to her house. She heard Kaz crying and sighed, going to get him from the nursery. Katsuki frowned as he stood up, going to her kitchen and brewing some tea, he thought they could both use some. He felt dirty, being in Deku's widow's home, but he wasn't here to fuck her, Deku had asked him to take care of her, if she ever needed help, it was now. He saw her come to the kitchen with Deku's son, and it was like a dagger to the heart. Deku's baby. His successor. Who was going to teach him to wield one for all? He supposed it had to be him, Melissa Shield could help, but she was all the way in America. He was worried, all that time with Deku's widow, after Deku died saving him? It wouldn't look great, and the words on his wrist disgusted him. Kaz smiled when he saw Katsuki, and Ochako sighed, holding him close before taking him to the living room and setting him on the floor so he could play.

"We woke him up." She sighed, watching her baby wriggle around on the floor, he had no idea what he had lost. It was almost nice, knowing her son was safe from the devastation, the pain of losing Deku, at least for now. He didn't understand yet.

"Deku said he was sorry, that he lied.. and he loves you."
Ochako looked at Katsuki sadly, but she nodded "Thank you."
"He was so upset, that the last thing he said to you was a lie. He was-" Katsuki felt the tears coming again "He was so angry with himself for forgetting to tell you he loved you before he walked out the door!"

Ochako nodded her head as she started to cry herself, "Thank you Katsuki."
"Yeah

She sighed, looking down at her baby and sitting on the floor with him, he was playing. He seemed so happy! Ochako envied him. She wondered if she would ever be happy again. Katsuki looked at Ochako sadly, watching her and the baby.
"What kind of tea do you want?" He sighed
"Uh strawberry please." Ochako sighed, "y-you can go home if you want, Katsuki I'll be okay."
Katsuki poured her some tea, "I promised Deku I would take care of you. I'm not breaking the last promise I made to him."
Ochako sighed "I just.."
Katsuki nodded "it feels wrong.. doesn't it?"
Ochako nodded sadly
Katsuki sighed "I have to help Kaz with his quirk. I'm the only one alive who really understands one for all. I'm gong to be in your life. Make peace with it."
Ochako sighed "Kaz is an infant. How are you going to train an infant?"
"Just saying. We're going to be in each other's lives. We can't get around it. Did your words change?"
Ochako started to cry again as she shook her head, showing them to him, he felt a pang in his chest. 'I love you cheeks.'
Katsuki sighed "mine either." He lied
"Can I see them?"
"No."
Ochako felt a chill go down her spine "let me see them!"
Katsuki sighed, holding his arm out for her and watching her sob. "We don't have much of a choice it seems."
"I'm going to betray him." She whimpered, "and Kaz and-"
Katsuki shook his head "shhh. Okay. We have no idea what context these words are going to be said in. We don't know what's going to happen. These words might not be romantic." Katsuki felt awful, his best friend was dead and here he was worrying about his fucking forearm.
"It doesn't matter, okay? We have a lot bigger things to worry about right now!"
Ochako nodded sadly "w-we do." She whimpered
"I'm sorry I brought up the words."
"It's fine." She whimpered
"We're going to be okay. Not today. Probably not for a long damn time. But we are going to be okay." Katsuki sighed he didn't believe it, and he was sure Ochako didn't either, but he needed to say it. Ochako nodded, looking at her baby with a slight frown
"I certainly hope so."
