The next week went by in a grey haze. The days went by slow, and ran together like one, long grey day from hell. It was worse than being at war. At least in battle you had to focus on getting out alive, getting your friends out alive.. Katsuki and Ochako spent their days taking care of Kaz, and making sure the other did at least the bare minimum to survive. Katsuki made Ochako eat. Ochako helped him sleep. They took turns waking up with the baby, they both came to rely on each other quite a bit. The morning after Deku's funeral, Ochako woke up and looked at Katsuki to her side with a sigh. Her first press statement since what happened.. She knew it was bad, sharing a bed with another man so soon after her husband's death, but it helped keep the nightmares at bay, and it was nice to have someone immediately available to wipe her tears when she woke up sobbing in the middle of the night. She liked to think he liked it too. She sighed, getting out of the bed and putting on the black dress her designer had sent her. She remembered receiving it, she had wanted to burn it, but Katsuki had insisted she wear it. That it was meant to be a kindness, one less thing to worry about. His dad did this type of thing for his clients too. She couldn't look weak for the villains. She needed to pull herself together. Look Strong. Even when she knew she was one stray comment away from blowing her brains out. The dress was nice. A bit short. She put on some stockings and a jacket before brushing her hair. She looked at herself in the mirror and sighed, she had aged ten years in a week. She supposed Kaz's birth hadn't helped her complexion, but looking in the mirror, she saw her mother. She tried not to let herself cry, but the tears came anyways, sobbing in the mirror. She didn't want to go. She couldn't. She was so worried about what people would say, she was getting used to hearing people refer to Deku in the past tense. She didnt' want to be surrounded by strangers. She didn't know what was going to happen. She heard Katsuki stirring and tried to cut her tears off, wiping her face.
"Think I'm not used to seeing you cry? C'mere." he huffed she went to him, and he wrapped his arms around her with a sigh.
"Everything's gonna be fine, okay? You're the widow. No one expects shit from you."
"That's not true."
He sighed "Well. None of those extras matter. Okay? Deku didn't give fuck about them, why should we?"
"I just. K-Kaz-"
"Is a baby. No one's touching him. Okay?""I'm so scared."
"Cheeks.." he sighed "the worst thing that could happen.. has. Okay? Kaz is safe. You are safe. It's going to be okay."She nodded sadly and he sighed, giving her a gentle hug. It was nice, living with someone, having someone to take care of and hold.. He sighed, it was going to be tough to separate himself from her when the time came. He had intended to leave her after the funeral, but she really seemed like she still needed him. He looked at her with a small sigh.
"We'll be okay." he huffed, he cared for her, a lot. He loved her son too, he had stepped into Deku's life and he knew to an outsider it would look disgusting, but he hadn't ever touched Ochako anywhere but in his dreams. He looked at the dress, it covered her words. Thank God. he supposed that was probably just common practice at this point.
"Y-yeah. W-we."Katsuki sighed, grabbing his own outfit and going to the bathroom to put it on. Ochako sighed, doing her makeup. Katsuki frowned as he was putting his shirt on and caught a glimpse of his words. He wanted to throw up. He stared at them for a long moment, 'don't worry I'll tell him you took good care of me' He had thought of carving them off several times now, but he knew if he cut himself it would just hurt Ochako more, and he didn't like going to the hospital. He supposed he would just have to get a tattoo, like Deku's. He sighed, putting his clothes on before going to Ochako. She looked good, the designer could have made the dress a bit less form fitting, and a bit longer. Ochako was newly widowed, it was unlikely she wanted to be ogled. Though he supposed that was what he was doing.
"What?" she asked, cocking her head to the side
"Dress. It's.."
"Yeah.. But I told her I would wear it so." she shruggedHe nodded, he should have let her burn it. He didn't think he could handle dealing with perverts. He huffed "Let's go."
She nodded following him to his car and sighing. He drove them to the venue and sighed.
"Ready?"
"Are you ready?"
He sighed, getting out of the car and looking at Ochako as a mob of people came to them there were so many words being said he couldn't make anything out. He got them to their spot, Inko looked at them and sighed.
"Ochako. I'm sorry I tried to talk to you yesterday but with all the people it was hard to find you and I should have called sooner.."
Ochako shook her head "No. No I've been doing okay. Katsuki has been so helpful and I honestly-I can't imagine how you must feel.." Her eyes filled with tears "I just.. I'm sorry."
"Inko shook her head, wrapping her arms around Ochako as they both cried. Ochako went up to speak, she had given so many speeches, but she got on that stage, and felt herself trembling. She didn't feel good. She wanted to throw up, she tried to speak, but she found herself gripping the podium, sobbing. She had been at her husband's funeral the day prior. Said goodbye to the man who had been her everything for years. She had seen her name written in red on a tomb stone. She had always known it was possible Deku would die young, but she hadn't prepared for it not at all. It wasn't fair. They had just had a baby. Kaz wasn't going to remember his father.
"I-I-I" She started sobbing "I-I"Katsuki sighed, pushing his way to the front and stepping into Ochako's place. "Go be with your kid."
"I can't I-""I will go first. Than some others. Than you. Okay?" He sighed, it scared him how badly he wanted to kiss her forehead. He hugged her gently, "Your kid won't shut up." he said loud enough for the microphone to pick up. Ochako nodded, hands shaking as she went to go see her son. He was still asleep.
Katsuki sighed "I.. I'm Bakugo Katsuki.. The.. The number one hero." The words tasted like blood in his mouth. "It's a title I've always wanted, but it's not one I ever deserved. I certainly don't deserve it now. I keep seeing people say Deku was the type of man who came around once every generation. That's not true. There has never been anyone like Deku! And there never will be again! And I could not be more sorry that his time here was cut short because of my recklessness.. I loved Deku, like a brother. And I had his back, always, just like he had mine.. He was just.. Always a little faster, damn nerd." Katsuki wiped his eyes, "I am sorry. I would have given anything for it to have been me instead. For Deku to go home to his wife and his son and for me to be in the ground. He didn't deserve it! He didn't deserve to die and Japan didn't deserve to lose him and I am sorry! I am so sorry."
There were a few speeches after that, everyone said the same thing. That Deku was so loving so devoted to his career and his family. He loved his wife and his son, and that he talked about them constantly to the point that some proheroes had seen more pictures of Kazuku Midoriya than their own children. He was going to be missed, and Japan had suffered a massive loss.
Finally it came time for Ochako to speak again, she got to the podium and sighed
"I..I'm Midoriya Ochako.. Dek-Deku's widow. I.. Met Izuku when I was fifteen years old. He was this massive dork.." She laughed sadly, "Bakugo and I both contributed to the founding of his hero name.. I'm sure you've all heard that story.. H-he was so excited all the time! Everything was important, everyone was important! He loved everyone, saw the best in them.. I was always trying to be more like him! Love more! Care more! I guess.. that'll never stop. M-my husband, was a fantastic father! Not only did he attend every doctor's appointment, he asked one hundred questions at every single one, and than cried when he heard our son's heartbeat. Every time." a sad smile came to her lips "that's just.. how he was. People always say.. The nerd thing, the smiley thing was all an act. It really really wasn't. Deku was just- a very happy excitable person who loved everyone! I-if he met you, he probably came home and told me all about it! And how cool your quirk was and how helpful you would be and where he was going to put you! Before I step down, I just want to thank you all for the stories. I-It is nice to know he is going to be remembered, and remembered fondly. He was so important to me.. And I'm happy he was important to all of you." She wiped her eyes as she stepped away from the podium, frowning as she bumped into Melissa Shield, "H-hi."
Melissa sighed, "Hi. I'm sorry, but, do you mind if we talk about your son?"Ochako frowned "What about him?"
{I didn't want to write Deku's funeral because of all the tradition involved in Japanese funerals I didn't want to do it incorrectly and be disrespectful so I skipped it. Sorry.}
