"This is the eighteenth time this week!" Percy exclaimed as he fell into yet another part of the swamps water.
Abigail was too busy laughing to respond despite them knowing about the alligators in the water. To be honest it is quite funny as since the first time he fell into the swamp his reactions each time change.
"It's not funny, Abi," Percy seethed as he shook himself dry while glaring at the girl who only laughed harder while wheezing. "Shut up!"
"Hehe... I knew your family had a thing for water, but come on, this is priceless!" Abi wiped her tears of laughter as she hunched over due to how much she was laughing.
Okay quick recap of everything that happened. There is now only ten tributes out of twenty four remaining. Yes the Career pack is still alive and just as murderous as always. Also someone had joined my brother and Abi from District Twelve. His name was Dale Hawthorne. Also I don't like the looks of him. Because apparently he managed to escape the Career pack, but his partner wasn't as lucky as she was killed due to one of the gators.
Percy's been keeping a close eye on him since he joined and I can tell he doesn't fully trust him. Especially with all the narrow eyed looks he has been sending towards Dale. Alongside the murderous gleam deep within his dark blue eyes.
Anyway once Abi had calmed down from her laughing fit and straightened herself out she sent Percy a grin as he rolls his eyes playfully, only to glare at Dale as he clears his throat.
"Shouldn't we be moving? We wouldn't want the Career Pack to find us," Dale said.
"We'll be fine. Also how would they find us?" Abi asked the male from Twelve.
"They're the Career Pack, they're smart," Dale told them. Although Percy looked absolutely unconvinced.
"You mean the brutes of District's One and Two? They're idiots, the only way they could find us with how deep we are in this gods forsaken swamp of an arena, is if they were getting help," Percy sneered as his glare only got more deadly by the second.
Abi looking between the males although she was also beginning to get suspicious of the District Twelve male that they helped.
"How did your District partner die again?" Abi asked carefully hiding the fact that she was getting suspicious.
Finnick and I then looked between each other as we were worried of what might happen to Percy and Abi when it came to the male with the bow and arrow. Although I'm certain that if he was to attack, Percy and Abi would be quick to prevent him from even shooting an arrow.
"She sacrificed herself so I could escape, but like you saw I didn't escape unscathed," Dale answered her although Abi and Percy shared a secret look as that was different to what he had originally told the two.
The two of them just gave a fake nod in agreement to Hawthorne before they all continued to travel. A silence falling over them. It's hard to watch sometimes because you can be so tempted to say that something will happen, but you know they will never hear you.
.
Dale was now in the middle of the group as now both Abi and Percy didn't trust the Tribute of Twelve as Abi realized his story didn't add up to what he had said at the beginning. Percy was now paying close attention to all the sudden moves that Dale makes.
"Okay you two, come get some food and a drink before you go back to watching," Evangeline called us from the kitchen, causing Finnick and I to jump while we let out noises of complaint and protest. Although we still got up and did what we were told. Begrudgingly mind you.
Finnick and I took our places at the table where Evangeline had dished us some shrimp pasta while having a glass of mango and orange juice ready for us as we sat down to eat. Although I was nervous about not knowing what all was happening on the holographic screen in the living room I knew better than to rush through eating anything. Because I actually love shrimp pasta.
The two of us were making small conversations as we ate our meal which mainly consisted if Percy was going to fall into the swamp anymore and how come each time that he had the alligators would only appear a couple minutes later. I mean it is odd, but at the same time I'm thankful that he hasn't gotten eaten by any alligators that I'm pretty sure are capitol mutts.
Once I finished my food and drink I made my way back to the living room only to let out a gasp at what I saw.
What am I witnessing? You're probably wondering. Well it involves Dale holding a loaded bow as he lifted it getting ready to pull the string back as he aimed it towards my brother and Abigail who had their backs to him.
"Percy!" I exclaimed, even though I knew he wouldn't be able to hear me.
Something must have alerted my brother as he was quick to turn unsheathing his machete, which also resulted in Abigail to turn with her spear at the ready as Dale had pulled the string of the bow back.
Just as he released the arrow Percy sprung into action as Dale was reaching for another arrow only with quick yet fluid like movements Percy had used the machete to cut the hand that was reaching for the arrow off. Resulting in Dale to let out a scream of pain as he dropped the bow in order to grasp at the bleeding nub that was his arm. Percy moving the large blade to where it had the sharp side pointing towards the sky as he ran it through Dale's stomach.
"I knew you weren't to be trusted Hawthorne," Percy sneered before he moved the blade upwards gutting him like a fish.
Percy then removed his blade from the tribute of District 12 who dropped to the swampy floor below as the sound of a cannon went off. He then turned towards Abigail only to see what we all saw as a horrified expression appeared onto his face.
Abigail having dropped her spear as her hands were slightly wrapped around her throat where the arrow that Dale had shot ended up embedding itself through her trachea. Her eyes wide with fear as she stared a Percy.
Percy quickly dropped his machete as he noticed Abigail starting to fall backwards as he caught her and had her laying against him. Tears filling her eyes as she looked at my brother a bit of blood trickling out the side of her mouth.
"Per- Percy..." Abi tried to speak only for my brother to shush her.
"Save your strength, please," Percy begged her.
Abi then slowly wrapped her hands around the arrow that was embedded into her neck as she then started to try and pull it out as a few tears slipped out of her eyes. Only it wouldn't come out as the head of the arrow prevented her from being able to pull it out.
"Abi, stop. You're just going to make it worse," Percy told her as he gently pried her fingers off the arrow.
"Plea- please, Perc- Percy... I- I can't," Abi started to beg my brother who started to shake his head.
"I'm not going to kill you, Abs," Percy murmured.
"Mer- mercy. I want a- a merciful death. I- I don't want to- to suffer," she told him as more tears slipped out of her eyes.
Percy looked at her for a moment before nodding. As he grabbed his machete as tears started to escape his eyes as he held it up only to quickly plunge it into Abigail's heart, killing her instantly and ending her suffering as he let out a broken cry at the same time that the cannon went off.
Death is something no one can escape.
