Eliana scowled. Seriously? Lyndsey was so jealous and urgh! She made Eliana want to scream. Eliana stomped off to her first lesson, elementalism. Today, they were catching wind and Eliana was not happy.
Instead of catching wind, the wind was drawn to her and it raged around, knocking bottles over and the sound of shattering glass became a natural noise in the classroom that day. Finally, she caught a non-shattered bottle of wind and her mentor, Sir Conley looked just as relieved as her to hear the bell ring.
"You better run along to lunch now. Good job on today's work," he said, his mouth twisting. Eliana practically ran for the cafeteria.
She chose a salad and bit into the leaves, tasting rather delicious. She hurried and shoved the food in her mouth before dumping her tray and running off. Lyndsey bumped into her on the way. Lyndsey's eyes were red as if she had been crying and she looked miserable. Her eyes widened even more at the sight of Eliana and she quickened her pace.
"Wait!" Eliana called after her but Lyndsey didn't even glance back as she hastened her pace and strode into the cafeteria.
The wind started to move faster around her as if sensing her sadness. Suddenly, the wind roared and she couldn't see a single thing as she was blinded by the overwhelming sounds and sights. "Stop!" she shouted and the wind died down, settling in her boots.
Lyndsey was not angry at her anymore, Eliana could see that. She sensed something deeper, like something really bad happened in her inflicting lesson. Lyndsey was obviously scared that Eliana would say sorry and ask about things so Lyndsey was avoiding them. Seemed simple but actually, Eliana could feel that Lyndsey had a trouble burning up inside her.
She was so preoccupied that she slammed into Waylen and Finn on the way to the Level 6 library.
"Ow!" she cried as she fell. Finn helped her up whilst Waylen rubbed his head. "Eliana, are you alright?" Finn asked, gazing into her eyes intensely. She blushed. "Yes, of course! Why wouldn't I be?"
Waylen frowned at her. "Listen Eliana. I know how you feel towards Lyndsey but you've got to cut her some slack ok? She's been struggling with her ability right now and feeling really tired. You need to let her know you do care about her."
"With all due respect, Lyndsey... she's not the easiest to get to. It's like bottling up your feelings but in a bad way. I don't quite feel the connection," Eliana said nervously.
Waylen started to get a little angrier. "You must listen Eliana! Only you can help her now, she's really depressed. She needs comfort in knowing her friends want her! Stop spending time with Lia, do you care more about her or your potentially dying friendship with my sister? Because if you don't care, I swear I will-"
"Hey." Finn's voice was firm and commanding. "Calm down dude." He flashed an apologetic face at Eliana and she blushed even harder as they left. What was wrong with her? She thought she liked Waylen!
But then, Waylen was too overprotective. It was a huge red flag in her opinion and she didn't want that kind of person.
She heeded his words and went in search for Lyndsey.
Lyndsey was sitting in the very corner of the cafeteria as she chewed her food sourly and she didn't seem like she wanted visitors. Eliana gathered up all her strength and walked over before sitting down.
Unfortunately, it didn't go the way she wanted. Lyndsey ignored her. "Lyndsey?" Eliana asked, already shy.
Lyndsey stared at her feet. "What do you want?" she mumbled, the words sounding more like a statement than a question.
Eliana gulped. "Well, I wanted to say sorry. I'm truly sorry for not being kind enough and I just wanted to tell you we can still be friends?" Lyndsey must have heard her apprehension as she decided not to answer.
At this point, Eliana was sick of it. "Lyndsey Aurelia Dizznee! She almost shouted as she slammed her hands on the table and stood up. "I seriously don't want this attitude anymore! I truly want to continue being friends with you but it's going to be tricky if you don't apply it in! Do you want to lose your only friend here? I actually like you, you are my best friend! So, pull yourself together and get whatever feelings you're feeling out of the way and become my friend again!"
Luckily, the cafeteria was loud enough to drown her out to the bystanders so she wasn't embarrassed.
Lyndsey stared at her surprised. "Eliana, I was wrong about you. Really wrong. You aren't horrible, you're nice! But loud. I've got a lead for you about Hadleigh as well. If you sit down and act like a normal human being."
Eliana sat, flushing. Lyndsey leaned forward. "I've heard Hadleigh is a Charger. She controls lightning. Apparently, that's important for something called stellarum? I read it in a really old book once when I was at your house. Maybe Hadleigh is part of a secret plan!"
Secret plan? Eliana didn't know about this. But, perhaps this was the reasons he was so closed off. She had a secret that no one needed to know but her.
"We need to get closer to her to find out her plan! It could be life-threatening!" Lyndsey hissed.
Eliana looped her arm through Lyndsey's. "Whatever we do, it's together right?"
Lyndsey gave her a little nod and they went out of the cafeteria, arm in arm and all Eliana could think of was how much she missed Lyndsey and how good friendship could be.
