Chapter Eight: Laughter and a Good Time

//Short Chapter//

C H A P T E R 8 :

It was the first time she had ever done something like this, but the mood all day was cheerful. Despite all the bickering they did, even though she had met them all today, they still included her in everything they did. It was weird that way. They were odd that way. She felt so awkward in the beginning but by midday through, she was already starting to feel comfortable.

They all went on many rides together, though Mae refrained from the ones with scary heights (along with Syo who she found out was terrified of heights too after a lot of teasing), though Natsuki usually grabbed him and took him on them anyways. Cecil was full of energy, bouncing around like a kid that wanted to go on every ride there; Ren was flirting with a bunch of girls and spent the day with them rather than the rides; Masato and Tokiya didn't seem to want to go on any rides at all and were just sitting down but Otoya dragged them to go anyways; Haruka was just following along, going on the small basic rides too, and her and Mae got small chances to speak to each other about music.

Apparently the story Otoya had told Mae was true, because Haruka told her the exact same story, and about how much she couldn't wait to take the entrance exam the following year. She was also grateful to had met all of them unexpectedly too.

Hearing about Haruka's hopes and dreams in the composer field only made Mae feel guilty. Seeing the look in Haruka's eyes as she spoke about it all reminded her of herself when she was a kid.

Though, obviously, Otoya didn't seem to notice how dejected Mae was after he had gotten off a ride with Tokiya, and grabbed her and lead her to the House of Mirrors. They both were alone, and for some reason seeing the funny images of themselves reflected in the mirrors, Otoya's laugh, and silly faces just cheered her right up.

"Come on, make a face too," Otoya said, as he pinched his cheeks, making a funny face. The mirror made them look fatter than they actually were, so obviously seeing Otoya's flat smile along with it was even funnier.

"C'mon, I wanna see it~" Otoya pressed.

Mae pursed her hips unsurely. "But..."

"Are you not confident that you can make a silly face?"

"Huh?"

"You're always wearing those frowns so I guess it's impossible huh?"

"H-hey," Mae said in defense. "That's not true!"

Otoya gestured for her to copy him with a you-can't-do-it stare and with narrowed eyes, she did. She stuck out her tongue at Otoya and made the silliest face she could, which turned out to be a failure because she ended up biting her tongue in the process.

She winced, covering her mouth in embarrassment, and the sounds of Otoya's laughter from above her made her flush hard.

"Hey! That was an accident!" she began, but stopped short when she saw just how adorable he looked laughing to the verge of tears. He even grabbed onto his stomach, guffawing in amusement.

Mae felt her weird inconsistent heartbeat as Otoya tried to calm down.

"Gomen, gomen," he apologized, wiping away a tear. He was grinning from ear to ear. He reached out his hands and grabbed her cheeks. "Like this!"

Mae looked incredulous. "Like whash?" she asked through his grip.

"You pinch your cheeks like this and go like this!"

Otoya made the silliest face yet which made Mae snort. The redhead blinked, his crimson eyes questioning. Mae let out a heartfelt laugh, and no matter what she did, couldn't stop it.

It was the first time in her entire life she ever laughed like this, but she couldn't help it.

"Th-that was the weirdest face I've ever seen..." Mae stuttered between laughs and Otoya gasped.

"Eh! It was that weird?"

Mae bobbed her head without hesitation, not being able to stop her laughing fit. Otoya's eyes were as wide as saucers, as it was the first time he'd ever seen her make an expression like this; the first time she laughed so full-hearted without a care in the world.

Heat rose to the redhead's cheeks as he slowly let go of hers after realizing he was still holding onto them.

Was this the real Akahana Mae? Otoya couldn't help but stare at her. She really is cute-

"L-l-l-let's get back to the others!?"

Mae wiped away a tear when she heard Otoya's shriek, blinking in confusion. He had his back facing her, making her unaware of how red he really was.

"It is getting late," Mae agreed, letting out one last breath.

They both walked side by side out of the attraction and as soon as they stepped out, they heard a yell.

"Found them!"

Cecil was frowning at them while the others seemed to be standing beside him too. Crowds of people were leaving the amusement park, as it was already dark outside.

"Sorry!" Otoya feigned a laugh as they approached them. "Are we leaving?"

"Not yet," answered Masato, crossing his arms. Both of them blinked.

"Jinguji-San, Shinomiya-San, and Syo-kun wanted to go to the Haunted House before we could decide to," Haruka said.

"Huh, Syo did?" Otoya asked in surprise.

"Natsuki dragged him with him," Tokiya stated, and almost instantly, everything clicked. For Mae included, who had just met this duo today.

"A-a-are y-you s-sure you're not sc-scared?! We don't have to do this if you don't want to."

"For the last time Munchkin, we're not scared."

They heard the voices of their friends a few meters away; Syo was desperately standing by the entrance while Ren and Natsuki were waiting for him to come in.

"Come on, Syo-chan~! We'll be able to see the cute ghosts!"

"No, Natsuki! Let go of me! I-I'll walk myse- LEMME GO!?"

All five gathered burst out laughing while Mae watched in amusement.

She cracked a similar smile of her own.

She couldn't believe it; she was having a good time.

May be updating daily...? I have until chapter 11 written out so yup xD

I decided to not make Otoya scared of heights in this just like the anime... I decided that because I already wrote out the next 3 chapters so it'd change the plot if I did... Maybe if I ever write him another fanfic, I'll include his fear of heights ;)
