A month would go by after Alex's encounter with the fake Hua and his brief interaction with the real one as when he had been brought back to the Serpent Base that day, he was informed that the base was potentially under attack which led Alex to putting two and two together and figuring out that the fake would have more than likely targeted the base had it not been for him.
Despite that, Alex unfortunately wasn't let off the hook for intentionally skipping out on the meeting from Kevin as Jackal would end up making him act as their measly errand boy.
He'd constantly make trips to numerous trips handling their business which Alex got tired of very fast but knew he really didn't have a choice and that he set up himself up for this.
Currently, Alex had just gotten today's round of trips done as he immediately laid down on the lounge area's couch as he had a heavy and deep sigh to himself.
Because he was out so often, he rarely had time to chat with Mei or Raven and he was far too tired to go check up on them.
After a while, the boy heard footsteps approaching him.
Worried that it was Jackal potentially catching him taking a break, he immediately sat up but had a sigh of relief when he saw that it was just Raven.
"Does she really have you that uptight?' Jokingly asked Raven.
"She has me doing courier jobs 24/7. Crap's gotten annoying really fast." He said.
"I did warn you not to walk out before the Sire's call. He may have let you off the hook, but I knew Jackal wouldn't."
"Yeah yeah I know. I set myself up for this."
"Anyways, cheer up kid. I have some news that you'll be very interested in."
When Raven said that, it quickly piqued Alex's curiosity.
"Alright go on. I'm listening."
"Not too long ago, there was an interesting missing person's case that came up in the city."
The girl would pull out a file on the investigation and handed it to Alex as the boy began to read over it.
"Let's see here. Attended a college nearby for two years but nobody seemed to even know she existed, lived on her own in apartment with no known connection to any relatives, and they hadn't been since in a month...........huh....that's all, odd. Why're you assigning me to this case?"
"Well, for some reason Jackal seems to have this weird intuition that this case involves some play from the Honkai. Unfortunately for her, the Sire won't let Mei do it because he doesn't seem to think the same when it comes to the Honkai's Involvement. I was asked but honestly I figured you'd be better off doing it. It'd give you something different to do after all."
After Raven explained the gist of it, Alex took a moment to think it over before standing up and nodding.
"Alright I'll look into it. What do I need to do?"
"Go to the apartment they were staying at and ask some residents there on if they know anything regarding the circumstances of their disappearance."
"Alright. I'll go get that done." Said the boy as he got up however before he left, Raven stopped him.
"One last thing. Before you go, head to your room first. I got you a nice surprise." She said with a smile, patting his head before walking away and waving goodbye.
The boy was a little confused by this but decided to do as she said, heading over to the room the Serpent had provided for him as when he entered, he saw a bag sitting on his bed with a note attached to it.
