The Avengers Initiative is designed to defend Earth from imminent global threats beyond the warfighting capability of conventional military forces. It was established in June of 1995 but quickly shut down by the Board of Directors.

If and when there is an event, Director Fury will commence this group and deploy them to the said event. When there is no threat, the initiative will be paused until there is another. They will be on standby until the Director initiates them again and will obey his orders.
On May 12, 2012, The Battle of New York commenced. The Avengers and Norse god of Mischief, Loki, fought. The former won. It caused death of millions but it gave the people hope that there will be someone there to fight their fears.
