Flashback 25 years ago....

"Penny are you nervous about pitching your idea to congress today? I mean it's alittle unconventional after all" Don Smith asked Penny Fisher as they walked up the steps side by side into the capital of course she was nervous this could be the turning point in her career. Don and her went to the same college but had completely to different majors her's was biomedical sciences with a minor in biochemistry she hoped to one day create something great for this country something to help with the war crisis. Her grades where the highest in the whole college and she was often complmented on her brilliant mind. He on the other hand was majoring in cybersecurity he could hack into anything and was smart in his own right but he always stuck by her side. They weren't dating like many students assumed but he did look up to her alot not only for her brain but because she was a few years older then him she was 23 and he was 20 she was a very big inspiration to him. She was young but she had big goals and was very ambitious with lead her here "Of course I am but this could change the country all I need is alittle funding from them to help fund it" she smiles as they walk inside different people in fancy suits rush left and right past them. He nods and they sit on the seats outside the council doors waiting for their time to go in "You know you didn't have to tag along I know you have a test later you should be studying for that" he rolls his eyes taking the folder from her hands looking through her noted. He looked at her out the corner of his eye "I'll pass I've already read way ahead of the class. Besides I'm here to support you your so ungrateful geez" she punched his arm making him smile as the doors slowly open. A well dressed older man steps out looking there way surprised at first seeing such young people "Are you Penny Fisher" she stands and Don passed her the folder. She smiles shaking the man's hand "Yes that's me sir I'm here for the 4 o'clock appointment" he nods looking back at Don "Is he your partner? will he coming as well?" she looked back at him he wasn't dressed up like her just his college uniform he just came to support her today. He walked closer giving a awkward smile "Actually I'm no..." she cut him off by holding up a hand "Yes he's with me" the older man smiled Don looked her way confused. The old man turns "Ok then follow me" he walks inside leave them Don turns in her direction "What's your plan here" she grins patting his chest "Just follow my lead and thank me when we're both famous" she begins walking inside he follows behind her. There was a group of 5 older men and women judges sitting up on the stand waiting for them "You stand right in front of the podium good luck" the older man stand before going to his spot beside the closed doors. Her heart was pounding as she stepped up to the podium with Don beside her sitting the folder on the table. The older man sitting in the middle grins looking down at her "Good afternoon Miss Fisher I have to say I'm surprised you where about to get a meeting with congress at such a young age. Can you tell us how you pulled that off before we begin?" she smiled looking out the corn of her eye at Don who swallowed hard. He was the one that hacked into the congress private server to get this appointment for her and somehow he manged to do it without leaving any traces. If he got caught he was definitely go to jail his excuse for doing it for her was if this was for the betterment of the country then it was surely worth it. He risked everything in doing this for her and she would never forget that. She would never out him for helping her out like this he was just as much part of this as she was "Hard work sir with the support of my best friend here" she pat his arm the man nods along with the other members "Very well then what do you have to tell us today" she bits her lip this wa the moment she's been waiting for so long. Nerves suddenly hit her like a brick wall Don looks at her concerned before opening her folder "We wish to for the government to provide fund's for the research and development that could help our governments army. A solution to give our army extraordinary abilities. They would become more resilient then an normal human once we find a formula we could essentially create any type of ability we would want such at fire,electricity and even flight the possibilities are endless" Don read from the papers to her relief. The congress members begin to mutter amongst themselves she finally snaps out of it to talk "Imagine our navy's and army's would be unstoppable more powerful then any others" she smiles but they didn't look pleased they looked concerned this wasn't the reaction she was expecting. The woman to the far right specks up first "Are you referring to human experimentation?" Penny hold up the paper from the folder "More so human enhancement i've been testing a solution I created on a few students around my college. Only I deal with the solution only I will ever know the full formulas at the moment the tests  have been unconclusive but I believe with more funds and time I could find the correct formula. It could change the country in fact it could change the whole world!" she had a crazed look in her eyes while sitting the paper down. The room falls silent as the council looks between each other all thinking the same thing "You have been giving your fellow students unregulated drugs without their consent. That's extremely unsafe and illegal you could be potioning them for all you know!" one of the men yell towards her pointing a finger in her direction. Another member decides to add on "This is all very unsafe we can't inject people with drugs and hope for the best. You could be murdering innocent people" Don looks at Penny while her head fell looking at the podium. She laughs softly it was a bitter laugh that shook him "Does it really matter if it's all for the greater good. You can't make a cake without breaking a few eggs" she whispered it was only heard by Don she suddenly looked up at them. None of them seemed to want to be part of this miumentous occasion to her disappointment "So you won't be funding me on this project?" the man sat at the front laughs only fueling her anger "Of course not! your lucky we don't report you and tell the college what you've been doing. Take this as a warning don't mess with things you don't understand and leave others alone" she pressed her lips tightly feeling very disrespected by them. They where insulting her intelligence as if she didn't understand what she was doing "Fine....I appreciate your time goodbye" she picked up her folder walking out the room leaving Don stand there. He turned running to catch up with her "Penny wait!" pushing through the door he saw her pacing back and forth in a empty hallway. He stops right in front of her "Are you ok? What will you do now?" he questioned and she finally stops pacing. Her fist was tightly balled looking up at him "This is just a minor set back for now I'll just have to fund this alone but this project will continue. Are you with me people won't approve of what we're doing. They will say it's wrong and unnatural even illegal but will you follow on this journey for the better good?" he thought it over he has always followed her lead and she never steered him wrong before. Was this going to be something he regret years from now he really hoped not "Of course" he gave her a nod making her smile before taking his hand pulling him out the capital.
