Pain, I woke up with pain and fire in my chest, my eyes snapped open as my hands flung to grasp the arms that were pinning my neck down.  My lungs were burning already as I started to twist and turn flinging my body around kneeing Finnick in the ribs.

His eyes were glazed over and I could tell that even though he was there he wasn't there, that was until my knee met his rib again.  He fell off of me and I jumped up and got into a fighting stance, as a guard dressed in a dark olive green jumpsuit ran into the room.  I tried to scream at him to stop but my throat was on fire, and my voice didn't seem to work.  I became all too aware of the hot tears streaming down my face as I tried to beat off the guard trying to get Finnick's arms behind him.

I was pulled off of the guard by who I assume was another one, I started to try and fight the man off as well until I heard his voice, "If you hit me one more time sunshine I'll let the guards take you." It was Haymitch, I stopped fighting immediately and started to sob in his arms, both of us falling to the floor as I sobbed in his arms.

The guards took Finnick from the room and soon it was only Haymitch and I left in the room, just the sound of my sobs filled it for the longest time.  His fingers ran through my hair as I cried myself back to sleep.

When I woke up the next time I was back in bed, my throat still hurt and I found myself bringing my hand up to it as I sat up and looked around the room.  It was a reminder that what I had hoped to be a dream before opening my eyes was all too real.

Looking around the room I found Haymitch asleep in a chair in the corner, sliding out of the bed, trying to push the memories of what had happened the night before out of my head.  I never thought that Finnick would try to kill me, I also know that it wasn't Finnick something had to have happened to him to cause him to do what he did.  I snuck towards the bathroom that was in the room opening the door, praying that it wouldn't squeak and wake the older man that was still snoring softly in the chair.

Shutting the door the lights came on and I finally saw myself, still in the loose tee shirt and baggy pants from the night before, when Finnick told me I was his, when his lips tasted like freedom.  Finally, I was able to bring my eyes up and look at my next, tears started to fall from my already puffy eyes as they traced the deep burgundy bruises that trailed from under my jaw to under my collarbones, my right hand came up, and traced the bruises.

I couldn't take it, the hot tears started to stream again and my skin started to crawl, ripping the clothes off of myself I almost launched myself into the small shower that was in the room turning the water on cold water blasting me, standing in it even when it finally turned warm.

I didn't know how long I had been in the shower by the time I washed my hair, and my body the soap smelling of lavender and sage but the water had turned cold again, a reminder that we were not in the capital anymore.

I stepped out of the shower finding a towel on the counter and after wrapping myself in the dark grey fabric I noticed there was also clothing.  Holding it up my nose wrinkled at it, it was a dark grey jumpsuit, very formless and very prisoner.   That had been what my whole life had been already, one sort of prisoner or another.

Once dressed I brushed my hair but left it down, hoping that it would cover my neck more than what the jumpsuit did.

When I finally felt that I could I stepped out of the bathroom almost scared of what I would find, glad to see that it was still just Haymitch, he had moved to lying down on the bed.

"I was beginning to think you found a way to sneak out through the drain in that shower." A joke, one that I would have normally laughed at but at the moment I just nodded.  "Oh, sweetie," his voice was saddened and my eyes found his as again as he stood up, his arms opened and I walked into accepting his hug.

"Are we in 13 yet?" I croaked out, my throat still in pain and my voice didn't bother to hide it.

"Yes, I wouldn't let them move you until after you woke up, but they still wanted to take you to the medical floor first thing." I nodded and hugged him tighter, "you don't have to see him if you don't want to, for as long as you want." I could only bring myself to nod again.

~~~
Haymitch took me off of the jet and walked me to the medical floor, I couldn't help but look at every person and every light that was in the halls as we found our way, a guard leading us, the older man's arm firmly around my shoulder.
"How's Katniss?" I asked when we got to the exam room, hoping that I would recognize my voice again soon.
"Well, while you were showering I had to pull her out of the tunnels that are here."
"Here as in 13?" I asked again wanting to be certain that we weren't where the capital was, needing to hear it again for my peace of mind.
"Yes, once you're checked out President Coin would like to speak with you," Haymitch said, and I had just noticed how awful he looked."
"Haymitch, have you been dry?" I asked and his face turned into the scowl I knew so well.
"Do I really look that awful?" He asked and I nodded smiling a bit, that was until a woman came in, the guard from before following behind her, she was in a long white coat.
"How are you feeling today Ms. Lockheart." She asked sounding too happy while doing so.
"I've had worse mornings," I told her putting my walls up and letting my normal smirk rest on my face, just because we were in 13 didn't mean I had to trust anyone who had lived here while hundreds of kids were murdered.
I let her check me over, knowing that after this I would have to meet their president, I hated presidents.
