Since being in 13 I haven't seen Finnick, not that anyone was stopping me but I still had bruises in the shape of his hands on my neck.
No one was stopping me from seeing him, he was being kept in the medical ward. It hurt knowing that he had been asking to see me since the incident but I didn't know how to see him right now.
President Coin would try and convince me to go see him whenever we ran into one another. She had even brought Haymitch up from his "drying out cell" as I called it to talk to me. I just simply wasn't ready for it, that was until Katniss reappeared.
A guard led me through the halls of the hospital of 13, I kept my head down as I passed Finnick's room just as I always did. I couldn't stand to see him fumbling with his rope, but I also couldn't stand to see him.
Once I reached Katniss' room the guard stepped to the side, his back against the wall on the left side of the sliding doors. I braced myself, standing up straight not sure what I would be met with, I haven't talked to anyone from the games since being here. I have spoken to Katniss' mom and her little sister Prim, both so smart and sweet.
The doors opened and I stepped in, I was met with the eyes of a killer, she looked like she wanted to kill me. "Hey hey now Katniss, no need to kill me anymore." I tried to laugh it off but something deep inside of me knew that she would still kill me given the chance.
"What are you doing here?" she asked, her eyes trailing over me. I felt as if I was being hunted by an animal. I leaned against the wall next to the door, far enough away in case she decided to lunge for me. "What happened to you?" Sighing, I made my way over to her bed and sat down by her feet. She had moved so that her knees were against her chest.
"Finnick had a nightmare, I just ended up on the wrong side of it," I told her giving her my best smile, although I knew that she could see right through it.
"Well, at least he made it out of the capital."
"Oh but Katniss so did you, and now you can be the hero that Peeta always was to you. You get to save him."
"How am I supposed to do that? They want me to be someone I'm not, they want me to be the face of a revolution"
"Well Katniss, you see," I tilted my head to the left slightly. "if you're the face of it then you get to make demands. Like going back to twelve, I heard from your friend Gale that they left the victor's village alone." With that I gave her a small smirk, knowing that it hit a nerve by the reaction on her face, no she would never been good at playing cards.
"You've been talking to Gale?" She asked, and I had to wonder if all the rumors were true. If her 'cousin' was actually something more than that, and by the way she reacted at just hearing his name I had to believe that he was.
"Sometimes, mostly during meals, he got a lot of twelve out by himself ya know." There were still a lot of people lost but he still had an impressive number. "You know you're being discharged right? They are going to send Prim in here once I leave, and then Boggs is going to be on his way down shortly." I stood up from where I was on the bed, knowing that I wasn't getting through to her.
I turned to walk back through the door when she spoke up, "I'll do it if you go and talk to Finnick." I turned back around on my heel, my long dark curls flying around me. "He told me he wished that we were all dead, I don't think that he would have meant it if he didn't hurt you." I didn't know what to say, I didn't think that could ever happen. Sure I had thought about going and speaking with him almost every moment of the day since we landed here in 13, but something wouldn't let me.
"Fine, I'll go talk to him, and you meet with Coin. Hell, maybe she'll even have some news about everything that has happened." I turned again and walked out of the room not wanting her to say another thing about Finnick to me. His room was right down the hall and before I knew it I was right in front of his door. His head was down watching as he played with the rope in his lap, making knots over and over again, the spark was gone from his eyes and there was an eerie feeling that almost seemed to seep out of the room.
Taking a deep breath I walked another step further the doors opening and his head snapping up. The color was drained from his face, but there was still a ever so small smile that approched his lips. "honey..." his voice was horse and dry sounding.
I stood by the door, part of me was screaming to turn and leave, go far far away, "hello Finnick." He dropped his rope and stood up, he was in white pants and a match shirt, just like what they gave all of those down here. I watched as he made his way over to me, his arms sliding around me and pulling me close to him. In that moment all the fear I had, everything it disappeared,my arms found their way around his torso and I closed my eyes just taking him in. My left arm made its way up his back and my fingers found their way to his hair. I didn't know how long it lasted all I knew was that they two of us were just holding on to one another.
He pulled away and cupped my face with both of his hands, his eyes scanning over me, probably trying to figure out if this was real or a dream.
"I-I'm so sorry, I've never wanted to hurt you, please please forgive me." Before I could respond he dropped to his knees and was hugging my waist, I believe that he had tears running down his face, which killed me. That was something I never wanted to see, Finnick was always so strong, and in my mind I didn't think that he would ever be able to break down like that.
"Hey hey hey," my knees met the floor and it was my hands that found his face this time. "No need for that," I took my thumbs and wiped his tears away. His ocean eyes found their way to my dark ones and that was all I needed to know that I would in fact be okay.
I leaned into him taking a moment to see any sign on his face that he was hesitating before my lips found his. It was everything I remembered and more, everything I needed.
