Y/n pov
I manage to get to the hospital just in time to change into scrubs and head to the chiefs office. The oh so glorious job of being the chiefs assistant. Doing all the paperwork, making sure everything is in order with the staff, who to hire and shit. Deal with cops and interagency cooperation. All so that the chief can spend more time in the OR.
Only reason i accepted the position was because of my accident. Only thing that made me switch from my life as a surgical intern to glorified assistant. But i also get to assist in surgeries with him, so that's a plus after all.
I've even gotten my own little office now, and it's perfect for me. Best of all, it allows me keep my hair out. Letting me hide the scar stretching over the side of my temple. Except for in surgery of course. Or at least that's what i tell myself at the beginning of every shift.
"Cortez, chief wants you in his office." A nurse says as she passes by outside my door. I barely get a glimpse of her as i look up from the papers in front of me. I who was just about to answer Kara's text about dinner. But instead i leave my phone and head out and down the hall to the chiefs office.
Knocking twice i walk in. "Chief Hart, you wanted to see me." And he doesn't even look at me as he rushes around his office looking for something.
"I'm preforming a CABG with Aortic Root Reconstruction together with Dr. Rodriguez." One of the younger doctors who would in reality want nothing more than to NOT be in a room with Chief Hart for over six hours. Only reason he's still here is probably because he's a damned good doctor and is good with patients, but with the staff? Not even close. I think i'm the only one he's ever nice to. But of course he also ogles me every time he sees me, tries to get close to me, once i even caught him smelling my hair.
"And you want me to...?" It's a leading question as i have no idea. And i don't want to hope too much. I might have lied to my friends about what i actually get to do. It's not very often i get to see the inside of an OR with him, only when HE wants it.
"Do whatever it is that you do." He waves his hand to dismiss me. But i still feel how he watches me leave, causing chills to go down my spine. Disgusting.
As i get back to my office i find my phone ringing. So i slump down in my chair, feeling my back tensing at the movement. The whole reason i'm not in surgery anymore, my back doesn't let me stand still for more then an hour at a time. But i am forever grateful for this specifically made chair Kara got from Alex, but she doesn't know i know that. Among other things.
"Hi Lena." I pick up the phone, having looked at the caller id before pressing the green button.
"Hey Y/n, am i interrupting anything?" She asks just as i look a the new stack of files standing on my desk. I might as well be a desk clerk. But i think that a desk job would be ever worse for my back.
"No, i always got time for you." I answer with a smile and it sort of reminds me that i was supposed to answer Kara's text. Gods how i wish i could just go over to her place and let her give me a massage right about now. But i can't for three reasons, one - she's at work, two - i'm at work, and three - i can't continue do that to her.
"I was wondering if you'd like to have a late dinner with me? It would unfortunately be here at the office, but it's been too long since we hung out just the two of us."
"It sounds more like you're trying to convince me to meet you, you could just have asked." I laugh and she laughs too. But i have a feeling deep down that she has something on her mind. "Is something wrong?"
