Kara pov

The winter chill hangs in the air as Lena and i sit bundled up in the cosy cafe, savouring our lunch together. And i even manage to avoid the subject of Y/n for the entire lunch. Out over the normal of course, since she's Lena's friend as well.

The warm aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingles with the sound of cheerful chatter around us, creating a comforting atmosphere. But our peaceful moment is shattered by the insistent buzz of my phone.

"Sorry, Lena, i have to take this." I say, reaching for my phone and noticing Alex name flashing on the screen. My heart sinks. Something must be wrong for her to call me in the middle of the day.

Lena furrows her brow in this actually kinda adorable way, concern evident in her eyes. "Is everything alright, Kara?"

"Yeah, it's just Ms. Grant." I assure her with a tight smile, pulling out my usual lie when it comes to this.

"Supergirl, we've got a situation." Alex's voice comes through my phone, urgent and tense as i also hear the turmoil of a team getting ready in the background.

"What's going on?" I ask, my heart rate quickening.

"There's an attack at the Allen Powerplant near the coast." Alex explains, her words sending a jolt of adrenaline coursing through my veins. This is no time to think about anything else, not even my worry about Y/n since she left earlier today. "We need you there now."

I glance over at Lena, her expression one of concern as she watches me intently. "Everything okay?"

I force a smile, my mind racing with excuses to use. "Just a work thing." I reply, my voice casual despite the turmoil churning within me. I can't stop worry about Y/n. With this attack and me not knowing where she is. I should really ask her about where she really goes when she goes away like this. Where is this home of hers? "I need to go but i'll call you later, okay?"

"Yeah, sure. Bye."

The cold nearly winter wind whips at my cape as i face off against the alien invader., its grotesque form illuminated by the flickering lights of the power plant. It makes it cold enough so that my breath mists in the air as i square my shoulders, putting Y/n out of my mind, readying myself for the fight.

"Hey!" I call out, my voice cutting through the cold night. "I'm only going to ask you nicely once, get out of here."

The creature turns towards me, its eyes blazing with malevolent intent. "You cannot spot me, Kryptonian." It hisses, its voice echoing in the frigid air. "I will feast upon the energy of this world and leave it in darkness. "

"Not if i have anything to say about it," i retort, my fist clenching at my sides as i prepare to engage the creature.

With a fierce roar, the creature lunches itself at me, its claws slashing through the air. I dodge the attack with practised ease, my movements fluid and precise.

"Is that the best you've got?" I taunt, my confidence bolstered by the training sessions with Alex the past couple of months.

But the creature is unfazed, its attacks relentless as it seeks to overpower me. I weave and dodge, deflecting its blows with combination of speed and agility.

As the fight rages on, i can feel the strain of the fight is taking its toll on me. The bitter cold seeps into my bones, slowing my movements and sapping my strength. Okay, he must have some control over this cold, its unreasonable. But i refuse to give in, drawing upon every ounce of determination within me as i fight to protect my city, her, from the threat before me.

With a burst of speed, i launch myself at the creature, fists flying as i deliver a series of rapid punches and kicks. It staggers under the assault, but its resilience is staggering.

"You will never defeat me, Kryptonian," the creature snarls, its voice dripping with contempt as it smiles.

But i refuse to let its words deter me. Hearing Y/n's words in my head. 'Only you can decide what you can do, not anyone else. So when someone says you can't, you prove them wrong'. And so i do. I press the attack, driving the creature back with relentless barrage of blows.

Finally, with a final, decisive strike, i deliver a powerful blow to the creatures midsection, sending it crashing to the ground with a deafening roar.

But just as the DEO pulls up around us, i hear it all shutting down. Darkness spreading around us, only light coming from the cars. And i see it spread down the docks and to the city, watching as a wave of darkness comes crashing over it.

With a heavy heart, i fly my way back to the DEO, the weight of the blackout pressing down on me like a leaden cloak. As i navigate the darkened streets, my thoughts drift back to Y/n. If she only knew how many fights i have won because of her, because of something she said, or simply because if i lose her life may be taken. I can't shake the worry gnawing at me, the fear of the unknown clawing at my insides.

Pulling out my phone, i dial that all too familiar number, desperate for some reassurance that she's safe. But the call goes straight to voicemail.

"Hi, you've reached the phone of Y/n Cortez. I cannot come to the phone right now but please leave a message after the beep and i will come back to you as soon as i can." And my heart sinks again.

"Supergirl, i hate to interrupt, but the blackout has take out the cell tower too." Alex informs me, her tone grim.

I feel a knot form in my stomach, a sense of helplessness washing over me. "But what about Y/n? What if she's trying to call me?" I ask, my voice tinged with panic.

"She's safe at the hospital, we can drive over as soon as we're finished here." Alex says all so calmly.

"She left earlier today, she went home." And it dawns on her what date it is. Where she is. A place no one of us knows. Why hadn't i insisted on her staying here, or at least letting me know where this 'home' of hers is.

Taking a deep breath, i force myself to focus. "Winn, can you track Y/n's phone? I need to make sure she's okay." I ask, my hands trembling in worry as i can't stop twisting on the ring on my finger. A ring she had gotten me. Since our wristbands broke, she got us the rings her first paycheck when she we were fourteen.

Minutes tick by like hours, his fingers flying over the keyboard, tension thick in the air as everybody watches me. Finally, Winn looks up from his screen, his face pale.

"I've found her phone," he says quietly, his voice barely above a whisper. Relief floods through me, but it's short-lived as Winn continues, his tone grace. "But the trace ends just outside the docks, it's... dead."

A child runs down my spine as the implications sink in. Y/n is out there, alone and maybe in some sort of danger, and i have no idea where to find her. And she has no way to contact any of us.
