Kara pov
My brain isn't capable of fully grasping the weight of her words, not in this moment. Because love, as i've come to understand it, is multifaceted, layered with complexities that defy simple definitions. But as she lays there in my arms, her breathing slow and steady, i hold her nonetheless, finding solace in the warmth of her presence.
Her eyes flutter closed, a small smile playing at the corners of her lips as sleep claims her again. I brush a strand of hair away from her face, my heart heavy with the weight of unspoken emotions.
Just then, Alex comes back into the room, her footsteps quiet against the sterile floors. She checks Y/n's vitals once more, her expression grace as she studies the monitors.
"You should get to work." Alex says softly, her voice breaking the silence that hangs heavy in the air. "I need to run some more tests."
I nod, reluctantly releasing my hold on Y/n as i try to rise from the bed. Bur her hands clench onto my suit with surprising strength, holding me in place.
I glance down at her, not knowing how to feel anymore. Just relief. "Y/n, i have to go." I say gently, my voice pleading with ehr to understand. I don't need Cat to fire me, not that i truly care until i have her back.
But the corner of her lips move, her grip tightening on my suit. Alex watch the exchange with a knowing smile, her eyes twinkling with amusement.
"Shut up," i mutter to Alex, though there's a hint of laughter in my voice. She chuckles softly before slipping out of the room, leaving Y/n and me alone once more.
As Alex exists the room, i adjust my position, finding a more comfortable spot to sit in the bed. I intertwine my fingers with her hand, her grip surprisingly strong despite her still frail appearance. At least she's not cold anymore. But as i glance towards the door, i see that Alex left some clothes for me to change into as i'm still sitting here in my suit.
The room is filled with quiet, almost tangible sense of intimacy that i've always yearned. The soft hum of medical equipment and the steady rhythm of Y/n's breathing provide a comforting backdrop to our shared moment of solitude.
Memories floor my mind, each one a snapshot of moments shared with Y/n. From our adventures when we were younger to late-night conversations, she has always been there for me, a constant source of support and companionship.
I lean in close, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. "I'll be right here," i whisper, my voice barely above a whisper. "You're not alone."
The minutes tick by in quiet companionship, the warmth of Y/n's hand in mine a reassuring presence. Despite the urgency of my duties as Supergirl and Kara Danvers, in this moment, all that matters now is her, holding her close until she wakes once more.
I don't think i realised it before but she hadn't only called out my name, but she'd called out for Supergirl. She knows, she knew who i was this while time?
Without truly releasing her from my arms i manage to change into a pair of grey sweatpants and a pink t-shirt. And as the hours pass, i find myself lost in thought. The soft glow of the bedside lamp casts a warm, comforting light, illuminating the room with a sense of peace and tranquillity.
The soft beep of the monitor punctuates the silence, a steady reminder of Y/n's fragile state. I watch her sleeping form, her chest rising and falling in a steady rhythm, and i marvel at the resilience she possesses, even in the face of death. I can't even imagine what must have gone through her head on that island. All alone, in that cold.
Lost in thought, i'm startled when Y/n stirs, her grip tightening on my hand as she mumbles softly in her sleep. I lean in closer, straining to catch her words.
"Kara," she murmurs, her voice barely audible.
A surge of emotion wells up inside of me as i rise up, squeezing her hand gently. "I'm here, Y/n." I whisper, my voice thick with tears.
Her eyelids flutter open, revealing tired eyes that seem to search mine for reassurance. "Don't leave." She pleads, her voice barely above a whisper.
I shake my head as i pull her closer once again, my resolve firm. "Never." I promise, my voice filled with determination.
