ON A MONDAY AFTERNOON, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.
Bronwyn, THE BRAIN, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.
Addy, THE BEAUTY, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.
Nate, THE CRIMINAL, is already on probation for dealing.
Cooper, THE ATHLETE, is the all-star baseball pitcher.
And Simon, THE OUTCAST, is the creator of Bayview High's notorious gossip app.

Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention, Simon's dead--and according to investigators, his death isn't an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he'd planned to post juicy reveals about four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they just perfect patsies for a killer who's still on the loose?

Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.

Holy wow. This was my first ever encounter with the writing of McManus, and I will definitely be coming back for books two and three of this trilogy. While this seems like an average murder mystery on this outside, it is so much deeper on this inside then anything I could've imagined. No rock is left unturned, and while the suspects are originally perceived as baseline stereotypes, they are all so much more than that.

I've been on a journey the past three days I spent with this book, and I'm in love. The constant point of view changes allows you to form a deep connection with all of the characters, and it only makes you all the more interested in the big questions: Who done it, and which one of us is lying? So many different matters are handled so elegantly in this book, I couldn't keep track of them all. This is absolutely a must have for all murder mystery fans, and dare I say a must have for romance lovers as well.

I'd rate this novel 5/5 stars. The way it handled a situation in such a realistic way was incredible. All of the characters feel down-to-Earth in their own ways, even if they're trapped in the scandal of a century, and don't know who to trust. What an adventure, I'm so glad I read this book!
