The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald's third book, stands as the supreme achievement of his career. First published in 1925, this quintessential novel of the Jazz Age has been acclaimed by generations of readers. The story of the mysteriously wealthy Jay Gatsby, his lavish parties on Long Island, and his love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, it is an exquisitely crafted tale of America in the 1920s.

I was pleasantly surprised when I finished reading this book. I didn't exactly have my hopes set high originally, I knew it was an old classic and not much else. To be completely honest, my first thoughts when hearing the title was that it was this random farm in the middle of nowhere. Don't ask me where I got that idea- I seriously could not tell you.
My original expectations were blown out of the water time and time again. What I expected to be a major bore was instead a beautifully crafted literary work of art, with characters that make your heart clench time and time again. The story is not sweet and sugarcoated, but instead a refreshing slice of relatable life from the 1920s.
I would rate this novel 4/5 stars. It didn't have me completely on the edge of my seat invested, and I will likely not be reading this book again (at least not for a long time), but I appreciated my time spent. The movie is good too, though. Definitely a good move by Leonardo DiCaprio.
