A ROGUE'S SECRET COULD CHANGE ALL.

The adventure continues as Royce and Hadrian aid the struggling kingdom of Melengar as it alone stands in defence against the newlyformed empire. War approaches and a desperate gamble behind enemy lines is their only chance at forming alliance with the Nationalists to the south.

But Royce has plans of his own. He uses this opportunity to discover if an ancient wizard is using Riyria as pawns in his own bid for power. To find the truth, Royce must unravel Hadrian's hidden past. What he discovers will lead them to the end of the known world, on a journey rife with treachery and intrigue.

I am only sorry that I didn't write this review right after reading the book, instead waiting until two months later.

What an absolute ride Sullivan has once again brought as all along for. After reading book one, I wasn't exactly convinced that this world was for me. The characters were incredible, sure, and the world building was magnificent, yes, but it just didn't all quite stick. Until I read Rise of Empire. I can now say without hesitation that this may be my favorite fantasy world to have ever been emersed in, and dare I say this story could even challenge that of The Lord of the Rings.

I never thought hardcore fantasy was my cup of tea. I love the fighting, the elves, the dragons, but in my opinion the long books feel... well, long. But this book and the one following may have changed my entire opinion. If you love fantasy, these are the books for you. If you're not sure about fantasy, I would even more heavily encourage you in this direction. If you dislike fantasy, well...I promise the relationship building is worth it?

I'd rate this novel 4/5 stars. I fell absolutely in love with all of the characters and their world of Elan, and I quite simply could never find it in me to put this book down. When I got reading, I could disappear for hours at a time, entranced in the beautiful word choice of this enchanting author. While I was head over heels for the rollercoaster of emotions that this book two had to offer, I chose to give it four stars because I had a hunch that book three could be even better.
