Three – It's been a long time
"That's three shillings"
Em pushed the door of Rose's Olde Sweet Shop open. She stepped aside as a woman and her son walked out. The child wore a happy grin as well as holding a brown paper bag. His mother looked to Em and smiled in thanks. Returning the gesture, the girl stepped inside. Every time the door was opened a bell twinkled as it was hit on the way in. It was busy. Kids with their friends mostly. It was a funny fact Andrea owned the family business now, even though she claimed to hate children. Maybe it was more for the fact she loved sweets herself and wanted to be surrounded by them non-stop. Now that was a valid reason. As the last person left the till with their bag of candy, Em strolled up with her hands pocketed.
"How's the day going there candy man?"
Monster looked up from the old till. His lips immediately twisted into a grin. There was a small chime and a louder click as he closed the drawer.
"Great. Now that you're here you can take over my shift"
"I'm not the one who works here" Em laughed. She reached into a jar standing on the counter. A label was stuck to the glass surface, on it, 'Candy Canes' was hand written with a price next to it. The girl pulled out two and held out her closed hand.
"It's a shilling right?"
"Actually it's two"
"Fine" Em shrugged waited for Monster to put his hand out. She dropped two coins into his palm.
"One for me, one for me"
Monster frowned. The boy crossed his arms with a huff. "Now you're just teasing me. You know Andrea never lets me eat candy from around here."
"Alright fine. You can have one"
Em held out one of the white and red swirled cane shaped sweets. Though as her companion made a grab for it, the candy was taken out of his reach. The blue haired boy glared at her. All he got in reply was a grin as she slid the two canes into her pocket.
"You are such a bi-"
"Em!"
Andrea's loud happy voice bounded into the room before she was even seen. The young woman wore a wide smile when she stepped through behind the till next to Monster.
"Hi Andrea. Do you mind if I borrow your little helper for the rest of the day? I need him with me"
The older girl furrowed her brow in thought, her glances shifting from Em to Monster to Em again. Finally, with a sigh and a scratch to the back of her head, Andrea spoke. "I guess it is. Though he will have to work overtime"
"Oh cut me some slack!" Monster protested by throwing his arms in the air. "This is a part time job, emphasis on the part time." The male looked to the kids and other people winding their way about within the shop. He quietened his voice. "I'm a bloody demon hunter. I can't be stuck in here all day all night"
"Wanna keep your job?" Andrea asked bluntly.
"Yeah but-"
"Then shut up and deal with it"
Em snorted with laughter under her breath. She would help her partner out, except, it was amusing to see him get bossed around by Andrea. The young woman wasn't a softie and didn't pretend to be one.
"So where is it you two are going, for you to need my little helper back in such a hurry?"
"We need to pay Marcus a visit" Em shrugged.
