In a universe alternate to the one you and me both live in, science has evolved in a slightly different way. Steam power is dominant, aiding the creation of inventions ranging from transport; trains, steam cars, trams, to boilers, even electricity and weapons. The capital city of Lias is home to almost seven million people. Most are oblivious, going about their day with the least care.
Very few of these people know of the Void.
The empty space between the two dimensions, both the one you and I have as a home and the universe in which Lias exists, the Void is a dark and perilous vacuum into which the few that have ventured never returned.
Though even fewer know of the pure evil that lurks in the shadows of this deathly vacuum....

One – Don't be afraid of the Dark
Her footsteps echoed through the alleyway, bounced off the high brick walls surrounding her. The woman was panting. Her breathing was heavy and laboured. As if she was running from something. Running for her life. Her black heels clicked against the paved wet ground. Her eyes darted from left to right. Something was after her. She was in danger. Her heart was in her mouth, the only sound she could hear was the pounding blood rushing to her ears. Every sound outside her body made her jump. The shadows cast by the dimly lit yellow street lanterns danced and fluttered around her. They were everywhere. No way out, no escape. The woman gasped out as she stumbled out onto the street, onto the cobbled stones. The ground was wet after rain. It glinted in the yellow light given off by the lights hanging above the streets. She wanted to scream for help, shout, anything. But her throat was tensed, her mind frozen in a state of panic. The streets were desolate. The only signs of life being the terrified woman.
A looming shadow towered above her. It cloaked the street around her, the suffocating shroud closed in. The woman turned. A terrified shriek was finally torn from her throat. But, when she turned, she was greeted with nothing. The shadow had gone. She was all alone. The woman finally found the ground beneath her feet. Her heels hit the stones as she sprinted as fast as her legs could carry her down the dimly lit path. The long straight road just seemed to get longer and longer the further she ran. Her feet ached. Her lungs burned. Vision was blurred by tears.
Finally, the end came. The woman shouted in pure fear, adrenaline was the only thing sending her forward. She couldn't feel the pain in her chest, or the aching in her feet and ankles. When she did, it was a little too late. The woman screamed out as she tumbled forward. She fell, put her arms in front of herself to cushion the blow. Her hands and elbows suffered scratches and cuts. The tears now streamed down her fair skin. Her curly blond hair, before in a neat bun, now falling over her face, stuck in strands.
The woman looked down. She had twisted her ankle. It shot pain up her leg.
Behind her, the lanterns lining the street at the very end went out, leaving the area pitch black. Then the next two. And the next...
The woman looked behind herself. A new, cold panic churned her gut."No...no please god no..." Her voice was strained. She pulled herself forward over the wet cobbled stones, all she could do was wail and beg someone, anyone to help her. To stop whatever was coming for her. The lanterns flickered out. The darkness chasing her down. All she could was plead, and crawl. The light right behind her was swallowed by shadows.
"God please no!"
Then suddenly, everything stopped. The woman froze. Silence fell over the street. The only sound she could hear was her own blood rushing through her body, heart pounding in her throat, her ragged breath.
Everything stopped...
Her eyes were wide and fleeting.
Had it stopped? She held herself up higher. Her chest was heaving fast.
Something cold and dark washed over her body. Even though the street in front of her was lit, the shadows chased her into the patch of light. It crawled over her, coating her body.
The woman stared at the darkness looming above her. She heard something big, something above her...
A breath. A chill. Something cold right over her figure.
The woman turned her head. Slowly. Her eyes wide, make up running down her streaked face mingling with the fresh tears. All she found herself staring at was a big gaping black hole, lined with rows of long, needle like teeth.
All the woman could do was scream.
Scream...
