Twenty Three – Everything Changes

So...

Very...

Hungry.

We can't eat. Not a single bite.

No . . . This puppet is precious. This puppet will take us far. This puppet we rest inside...
He will bring us all the food we need.

He does not yet know.
Stupid blind human.
Claiming to be so strong.

So invincible with his army of . . . P U P P E T S . . .

They are all compliant little dolls. Awaiting commands . . . Doing as they are told . . . With every tug on their strings his beloved Hunters do as is told of them.
He is their puppeteer.

And now . . .

WE are HIS puppeteer.
We pull the strings at his ankles and wrists.

But he does not yet know...
We watch him.
Through his tired eyes, we watch. As he talks to his family... His wife, and daughter, and son...

Want to eat . . . want to eat them all... So unaware and tasty...

And we are so . . . VERY . . . H U N G R Y . . .

No...

This body is good. This body is important.
We will strike . . . we will feast when the time is good.

We are so . . . very . . . H U N G R Y . . .

"Why out of all things on that menu, did you have to order the most expensive?"

Em held her hands in the pockets of her shorts as she moved her way up the stone steps towards the large main doors of the central KO building. The central hub of their organisation, their living quarters, offices, even the armoury. If she didn't know better, this was the most important building.

Behind her, the bluenette picked something out of his teeth with a pinky finger and flicked it away from himself, not seemingly caring at all about the lack of grace or class he possessed in the given moment.

"Hey, our lives are a hot steaming mess of kill or get killed. In the rare chance I have of visiting a chocolate house, I will not hold myself back."

"No shit" The girl turned over her shoulder to sneer at her companion whilst he reached the end of the steps where she stood. "Triple chocolate trifle with three toppings of wafers, cookie pieces, sprinkles, cream and more chocolates?"

Monster thought back to the dessert she mentioned and sighed.

"My one true love"

"How is it that you have the diet of a fat-ass aristocrat but you still look like..." Em looked down and mentioned at his lean abdomen, clad in his shirt and dark blue waistcoat. "...that."

"Maybe because we have our night job?" Monster made a face as he spoke, one that clearly read 'it's obvious'. The girl decided to ignore his childish antics, and rolled her eyes in return.
He had been this way the entire time she had known him, and that was pretty much all her life. And not just the life they both lead here in Lias, a life which started at her age of ten. Despite not having many memories at all from before that point, Em knew she remembered Monster from before ending up in this grand city. She could feel it. And she was sure Monster could too.
