Chapter 18
Edited"Sam, you're catching. Go get the spare gear on," he says.
"But coach! You know I can't catch! Uhm, I don't want to get over heated!" I whisper-yelled, making up a reason to not catch.
"Sam, I really don't care! We don't have another catcher, but we do have other pitchers. Please, Samantha, do it for the team. We need you to step up and do it," coach pleaded. I sigh.
"Alright, coach. I'll do it. For the team," I smiled and headed to the dugout. In the corner of the dugout there is another catcher gear bag. I walk over to it and start to put the leg guards on. Then the chest protector. I carry the helmet and a catching glove onto the field. I put them both on, the helmet first, and warm up Keeley.

"Well done, Samantha," the coach congratulated me. I was also proud of myself. I caught almost a whole game and didn't get to emotional. Yay!
We ended up winning the game two to one. It was a close game.
As I headed out of the dugout after packing all of my things, I was greeted by Skylar.
"Hey, nice job! You did awesome! You technically won the game!" She says, patting my back since I have no open hands.
"Thanks, but I didn't win the game, all I did was pitch part of the first inning and catch the rest off the game," I sigh. I wonder how many more games I'm going to have to catch...
"Well, you also scored two runs, and that was enough to win the game," Skylar argues.
"How did I score two runs if I only touched home plate once?" I ask. This girl is confusing.
"You hit a base hit, which scored the gir-" I interrupted her.
"But if Miranda wasn't on third, that wouldn't have happened," I reasoned.
"Okay, fine, you win. Do you want I come out an get some victory dinner with me?" She asks, her facial expression showing she was hoping I would would come.
"Sure," I laughed a soft laugh. "Where are we going? I'll meet you there," I said, looking up from the ground. We both started to walk towards the parking lot.
"We are going to Jeannie's Café. And I was kind of hoping I could catch a ride with you," She said hopeful.
"Okay, get in," I say. I open the back door and stuff my softball equipment in the backseat. I put my mini ice chest in the floorboard. I close the door and get in the drivers door.
"Are you ready?" I ask her while putting on my seatbelt.
"Yeah, I am," she said as I turn the key and backed out of the parking space. I started to head down the road towards Jeannie's.
"Afterward, do you want to go to the mall?" She asks, looking at the road.
"Skylar, after we eat it will be late. Maybe tomorrow?" I ask her, glancing over at her, but quickly my gaze shifted back to the road.
"It's a date!" She said playfully. I laughed.
