Chapter 3
EditedOnce I got home, I went straight up to my room and got ready for softball practice.
I put on my practice jersey, softball pants, and socks. The practice jersey was like our regular jersey, with our team name, number, and last name, but had sleeves instead of being sleeveless. Our team was called the NWA Venom '01. The '01 is the year we were born, even though I'm personally an '02 baby.
I combed through my hair, and left my room to find my mom, so she can french braid my hair.
"Mom! Will you please french braid my hair?" I yell through-out the house, so she can hear me.
"Yeah, sure. Go sit down in the living room and I will be down in a minute!" She yells back a reply.
"Ok, thank you!" I yell back.
And like she said, a minute later she came back with her makeup done and she had on a t-shirt, not jersey, like mine. She also had on a pair of sweats.
When she got done with my hair, I walked back upstairs to grab a headband and my sliders.
"Come on, sweetie! We don't want to be late!" She yells, politely telling me to hurry up.
"Ok, mom. I will be down in a sec," I yell a reply. I put on my sliders and run downstairs. I grab my bat bag and my cleats and go out to our black car.
On the ten minute way, I listened to some songs and played a game called, 'Bounce'. It is fun, but irritating.
I was listening to, 'Lips are Moving' by Meghan Trainor when we pulled up at Farmington's softball field complex.
I got out of the car and grabbed my bat bag, cleats, and the water my mom made for me, and walk to the field that we were practicing ons dugout. I got my glove out and played catch with Miranda, one of my friends on the softball team.
When we were all there and warmed up, we stretched and ran along the fence for one lap.
We then all got our masks and went to third base. He threw us some grounders, and we threw them to the first basemen, Miranda.
After that, coach called us together. "Keeley, go to the mound. Becca, short. Miranda, first. Kenli, second. Ashlyn, third. Baylynn, center. Emily, left. Savannah, right. Sam, go catch. Kylee, Heather, and Cambree, go and get your helmets on. You guys are going to run," coach Brice commanded us to do.
After he was done telling us where to go, we all yelled "break!" and ran to the position he told us to go. I put on my catching gear, and warmed Keeley up. No, we were not batting, but sometimes if he wants me to throw down, he will have her pitch.
When the runners all came out of the dugout, coach hit the ball. He hit it to Ashlyn, and she made a perfect throw to get the speedy Cambree out.
"One down, two to go, plays at one!" I call out to everyone.
He hits it into the outfield. It was a routine ball to Savannah, but she missed it. The runner, Kylee, got safely to first. She's very slow.
He had Kylee steal, so Keeley pitched a perfect pitch to me. I caught it and went down on my knees. I lunged forward and release the ball. It goes straight to Becca's glove at second base, and we successfully get her out.
This continues, until coach told us to go take a break and get a drink. I do so, and go back to the coach, waiting for the other girls to do the same. They finally do, and we split into two teams of six, and scrimmage each other. After a while of that, we have a relay race, coach Brice has a talk to us about upcoming events, and we leave with our parents.
When we get home, I immediately take a shower and go to sleep.
