Chapter 22

Recap:

"What's your favorite color?" He asks.

"Green, my turn," I smile again. "What is something you love with all of your heart?" I ask, expecting him to say his mom, his dog, or something like that.

"You."

I coughed.

I don't mean a little 'clear-your-throat' coughs. I mean a big, 'I'm-choking-on-my-water-and-dying' kind of coughs.

"Oh my gosh! Are you okay?" He asked very concerned.

I some how made out something along the lines of, "Yes."

After I got done choking, I laughed. I guess the concept of someone loving me after two dates, one not even a full date because of the girl that kissed him, was totally stupid!

"What is so funny?" Jesse asked, staring at me as if I had two heads.

"I-I thought y-you said you l-loved m-m-me!" I said, giggling between words. Now, I've busted out laughing again. I looked over at Jesse, and quickly stopped laughing. He had a serious expression.

"That's because I did..." He said in a low voice. He sounded mad.

"Oh," was all I said, only because I didn't know how to respond to that.

The rest of the meal we sat in silence, and once we finished, we left immediately.

"Are you mad?" I ask in a small voice.

"Yeah, I am," he whispered, getting into the front seat of his vehicle.

"Yeah, I imagined. But that was quick, don't yah think? I mean, we just started dating again. You could've waited..." I reasoned, but there was no use. He sighed and started to drive.

"When you know, you know. I thought there was something different about you, I just knew it. It was a stronger connection between us. But it's not. I guess I was just blinded by your looks," We pulled to a stop. "We're here."

I looked out my window, and saw my house. As I reached for the handle of the vehicle, he grabbed the collar of my shirt and pulled me towards him. Our lips crashed together, and for a few seconds I enjoyed it. But then he pulled away. "Goodbye, Samantha."

I looked at him sadly. "Goodbye, Jesse."

I walked to the front porch and sighed. I took off again, and opened the door.

"Hey, mom," I tell Cristie, walking right by her and straight to my bedroom. I closed the door and crawled on to my bed. I lie there, thinking about all the 'what ifs'.

The only problem is, the thing I felt at the bottom of my stomach. It was a small yet strong feeling. It messed with me enough for me to say five little words to the air.

"I love you, too, Jesse."

*Jesse's POV*

I can't believe she laughed at me. All I did was voice my feelings! I thought she felt the same thing. But I guess not, which was depressing. I loved her. But now she broke my heart, which I thought loved.
