Hunt gone wrong
A few hours ago, when Seth and I got back to the big house, my younger adopted cousin, Onyx, pounces on me. "It's so boring, when you're not here Reney,[pronounced Wren- knee]never leave me again!" Nyx whines. I ruffle his dark hair, as he lets go. "You know I'll be marrying Jacob soon, and then I'll go live with him, but don't worry, I'll visit all the time.." He looks at me with tears in his eyes, asking, "why can't you and Jake just come live here?!" He sobs, I sit on the couch, cuddling Nyx in my lap. "He's asleep?" Seth asks, voice gentle. I nod, holding my hand out for Seth, so I don't have to speak aloud. " I hate when he gets so upset!" I tell Seth using my power. Seth nods, whispering "I remember the day you found him in the woods. Jake had a fucking cow, but I've never seen it though your eyes.. do you mind showing me?" I shrug my shoulders, slightly, being extra careful not to wake Nyx. "I'm really surprised Jake hasn't showed you, using your wolf telepathy! " I tell Seth, using my power again. "But sure, it's not like it's a secret or anything.. " I go back to that day about three and a half years ago, I was about 10 years old in body size with the mental capacity of a 20-year-old, being a hybrid vampire is weird.
"As you know I was begging my mom, dad, and Jake to let me go hunting Solo.. No one thought I was ready, because I was still drinking donated blood that Grandpa Carlisle got from the hospital, it was rare at this point in time, but it did happen occasionally.." "I'll never judge you for that.." Seth says, without a hint of disgust.. I lean into his side a little, "thanks for being so understanding Seth.." I murmur, he kisses my head the way someone might kiss his younger sisters.. "You're so hard on yourself, you're half vampire, you need blood, yet, you've never killed anyone. Give yourself some credit." He says. I gently touch his face, asking with my power, "do you want to know what happened next?" He nods, Nyx stirs on my lap, so I tell Seth "I'm going to go put him in his bed, I'll be right back." He follows me, upstairs, but stays in the doorway, making me wonder what Jake's orders were exactly. As I try to untangle Onyx's limbs from around my body, without waking him, his bright blue eyes pop open, and he starts sobbing so hard I'm worried he'll make himself sick... "Uncle Jasper!" I call softly, but urgently, knowing if he's anywhere near the house, that he'll be able to hear me. What's wrong Nes? Jasper asked at my side just a second later. He instantly sends a wave of calm through Onyx's room, "do you know where Rose and Emmett are?" "They went away for the weekend.." Jasper tells me. "Who's supposed to be watching him?!" I demand, refusing to let Jasper's power calm me. His expression turns guilty instantly. "Um, well, Alice and I were, but when she saw everything disappear about half an hour ago thanks to the wolf.." he gestures to Seth, "we put him in front of his favorite TV show, with a snack, knowing you would be home in just a minute." I sigh, "next time, just call me, and I'll watch him!" Jasper backs out of the room, his hands up in surrender,"sure thing kid!" As soon as my uncle Jasper leaves the room, it's clear Nyx starts to have a nightmare so I start singing to him softly..*song above* Seth seems to shake himself out of a trance, coming to my side, as I sing hoping to calm Nyx down.. once Nyx is in a deeper sleep, I pull Seth out of his room, making sure to grab the baby monitor as we go, my dad intercepts us about halfway down the stairs, saying, "I'll watch Onyx, if you and Seth would like to go hunt, your mother had to go down to the reservation anyway." He shrugs "Just take your uncle Jasper with you, because I think there's something going on with the Volturi right now." "Okay," I agree knowing that it's a fight I won't win. "I'm going to take a shower and get changed first, send Jasper my way in 20 minutes" I tell my dad. As Seth and I walk to the cottage, I tell Seth about the day I found Onyx, in these very woods.. "I smelled the blood covering him, it was obvious he had just been born, someone had wrapped him in a sweatshirt, his umbilical cord was still attached.. I got scared when I noticed he was trembling, so I screamed for Jake and Carlisle, but when I picked him up, he calmed down almost immediately, it's like we had this bond from the get-go. Emmett, Jasper, and my dad, looked for any sign as to where Onyx might have come from, but there was nothing no sign of the mother or anyone else in the area for that matter. It had just snowed so, no humans were out hiking in the area, we literally have no idea where he came from.." I sigh..
"And Grandpa still can't figure out exactly what he is, we know he is a quarter vampire, and that he has magical abilities, but he grows at normal human speed." "Do you think that's why he's so attached to you? Because you were the one that found him?" Seth wonders. "You know, I never really thought about it. I'll be back in a few minutes.." I say, gesturing to the bathroom door. Seth nods, sitting on my bean bag chair, that I've kept at the foot of my bed since I was really young. I'm careful to take my towel, and clothes with me, I don't need Jake trying to kill Seth for seeing me naked. Seth has been my best friend for as long as I can remember, he's going to be my "man of honor" when I marry Jacob.. when I finish in the bathroom, Jasper and Seth stand in my room.. "Are you ready to go hunting?" I ask them, they both nod, Seth's hands already trembling.. 10 minutes into the hunt, and the hairs on my neck stand up, and I know something is wrong.. "PAIN" I hear Jane Volturi say, a fraction of a second before I go down, feeling like my brain is on fire. I feel the back of my head hit a rock very hard. Then everything goes completely black.
